Big medal haul for Mustang girls team at Cape-Atlantic League Track and Field Championships

BUENA – Coach Mike Colombo’s Mustang girls won seven events and earned even more medals at the Cape-Atlantic League Track and Field Championships Saturday at Buena Regional High School.

The Ocean City High School girls team earned individual championships for two runners and had other medal winners as well.

Mainland Regional High School junior Gianna Shea broke the school record in the pole vault with her winning height of 11 feet, 3”. The old record was 11’2”. Teammate Erin Lowry, a sophomore, was third at 8’.

Shea teamed up with Camryn DeMorat, Oriellah Caplan and Veronika Andreev to win the 4×100 in 48.84 seconds. 

Andreev won the 100 meters in 12.5 seconds, just ahead of Ocean City juniors Ella Miller (12.6) and Sophia Pratt (12.92).

Andreev, a junior, also won the triple jump at 34’7.5”, just ahead of teammate and fellow junior Allie Thomas at 34’6”. Ocean City’s Ava Beningo, a sophomore, was third at 33’7’25”.

Thomas took first place in the high jump, clearing 5’.

DeMorat, a senior, won the long jump at 17’8.5”. Shea was third in the event at 17’1.25”. DeMorat was second in the 100 hurdles in 14.95 seconds, behind Atlantic Tech’s Brianna Gowalt, a multiple winner at the meet. Gowalt’s time was 14.41. Andreev was third in 15.74.

Mustang senior Emma Preissman won the 800 meters in 2:20.42. Teammate Madison Taylor, also a senior, was fourth in 2:22.35.

Ocean City sophomore Riley Tolson won the 1600 meters in 5:04.19. Mainland’s Preissman was second in 5:15.46.

Red Raider junior Carly Godfrey won the 400 meters in 56.74 seconds and Miller was third in 58.55. Mainland junior Lily Molinaro was fourth in 59.85.

Mainland’s 4×400 relay, anchored by Preissman, was second in 4:08.41. Atlantic City won in 4:03.50. In addition to Preissman, the relay had Lily Molinaro, Maya Thomas and Caplan.
