 J. Jan Gouza, 86

J. Jan Gouza, 86 of Ocean City, NJ. and Dataw Island, SC. passed away peacefully on September 10, 2022.

He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Merion L. Gouza, who passed away February 20, 2022.

Born November 22, 1935, in Granite City, Illinois, he was the son of late Julius J. and Jessamyn B. Gouza.

Jan was a graduate of Bristol High School (PA) and a 1958 graduate of Penn State University. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and was a life loyal brother of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

He was in the United State Marine Corp Reserves from 1958 to 1964 and attained the rank of E-4 Corporal.

Jan began his professional career working for the engineering firm of Pickering, Corts & Summerson, Inc. (PC&S) in Langhorne, PA, later moving to Newtown, PA. He worked for PC&S for 42 years, retiring in 2000. A respected engineer in his community, he was President of PC&S from 1969 to 2000 and served as municipal engineer for several townships during his career including, Doylestown Township, Newtown Borough and Township and Lower Makefield Township. He was also the former chairman of the Newtown-Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority and a 50-year member of the Newtown Reliance Company.

He is survived by two sons, Jeff (Coleen) Gouza, Ocean View, NJ. and Paul (Laurie) Gouza, Newtown, PA. His grandchildren Hailey Gouza of Cherry Hill, NJ. and Madison Gouza of North Wales, PA. and his sister Carolyn and Lance Billingsley of Rehoboth Beach, DE.

He was passionate Penn State fan. He loved golfing, sailing, boating, and a master carpenter who liked to make saw dust with his many talented wood working projects.  

He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Folds of Honor at foldsofhonor.org.
