Susan K. Davis, 83

Susan “Sue” Kroesser Davis, 83 of Alexandria, VA, passed away on September 24, 2024.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Lance A. Davis; children Susan D. Frontero (Jim), Virginia Davis-Lee, and Lance A. Davis, Jr.; grandchildren Michael and Nicole Frontero, Kelly and Hank Lee, and Lance A. III and Alexander Davis; brother Walter J. Kroesser, Jr. (Judy); sister Bonnie Eyde (Bob), and many cousins and friends.  She was the daughter of the late Walter & Ruth Kroesser.

Born Feb. 28, 1941 in Philadelphia and raised in Cheltenham, PA, Sue attended Cheltenham High School, where she played field hockey and basketball and was a varsity cheerleader.  She received her Associates Degree in Fine Arts from Linden Hall Jr. College where she served as Student Council President and was crowned “May Queen” one year.  Sue spent summers in Ocean City, NJ on Gardens Road in the Kroesser family home.  Blessed with a great voice, melodies could be heard as she sang with her mother, aunts and cousins. In 1961, Sue met her future husband, Lance Davis, on 14th street beach in Ocean City.

They married in 1962 and raised their family in Morristown, NJ.  Sue sang in the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church choir, was a member of the Women’s Club of Morristown, and on the Board of the Morris County Arts Association.  After moving to Alexandria in 1994, she continued her community work by serving on the Board of Lady Managers of the Alexandria Inova Hospital.

Sue’s artistic eye showed in her beautifully decorated homes and helping others with theirs.  She loved music and dancing – especially the jitterbug.

Sue was such a kind and compassionate person.  Many of the ways people described her live on through her 6 grandchildren: Michael with his compassion for others, Nicole with her love of song and dance, Kelly with her flair for fashion, Lance III with his kind and even keeled nature, Hank with his gift of art and design, and Alex with his big warm smile.  All would say that Sue was truly a model of selflessness who exuded love.  She will certainly be missed by all.

A Celebration of Life for Sue will be held on July 3rd at St. Frances Cabrini Church at 12:00pm in Ocean City, NJ.

Donations in the name of Susan K. Davis can be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 29 Hillview Avenue, Morris Plains, NJ 07950 or at https://www.stpaulsmp.org/memorial-gifts
