George Allan Hafer, 87

George Allan Hafer, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026.

George was born in Cleveland Ohio on July 4, 1939. George grew up in Abington, Pennsylvania and spent his summers in Ocean City New Jersey, where he eventually became a resident for many years. A natural athlete in his youth, George played sports at Chestnut Hill Academy, Abington High School and was Captain of the Soccer Team at Ryder University. He began his professional career at Westinghouse before becoming a very skilled carpenter and home builder. George’s true passions, however, were found beyond the office. He was an avid sailor with the Ocean City Yacht Club, a skier, a fisherman, and a bridge player who treasured time spent with friends.

In the early mornings, George used to love to sit by the bay, read the newspaper, drink his coffee and sneak a cigar. Later in life, George became an iPad whiz—diligently hunting and pecking his way to investment insights, sports scores, the latest headlines and bridge games. He was also an excellent judge of the perfect martini, which he had daily at 5 O’clock. Of all the roles George held in later life, none may have been more important than serving as the self-appointed official weatherman of the Duffy clan. Rain, wind, small craft advisories—you could count on George to be tracking them all. Family captains, Kevin and Dave, rarely had to wonder what the weather was doing because George had already called with the forecast. His timely alerts undoubtedly saved more than a few boating mishaps.

George and his life partner, Joanne, shared a beautiful journey together. They traveled to many countries, cultivated lasting friendships, and enjoyed many happy days with their community in Punta Gorda, Florida. Theirs was a partnership defined by love, laughter, and shared adventure.

George was predeceased by his father, Carl; his mother, Marjorie; and his twin brother, Carl. He is survived and will be deeply missed by the Duffy family: Joanne; Kevin (Liz); Megan (Jason); Erin (Frank); Jenny (Dave); Katie (Matt); and ten beloved grandchildren.

At the request of the family, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to NJ Hospice, 415 W. Landis Ave., Vineland, NJ 08360. For condolences to the family please visit www.godfreyfuneralhome.com
