Albert R. Neill Jr. 95

Albert R. Neill Jr., 95, of Ocean City, passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2026.

Born and raised in Wildwood, Albert was a member of the Wildwood High School Class of 1948.  Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving aboard the USS Campbell.  During his service he traveled the East Coast from Greenland to Bermuda.

After receiving an honorable discharge, Albert moved to Ocean City, where he met his future wife Madeline (nee Tarves) on Asbury Avenue.  They built a life together and raised their family in the community they loved.

Albert worked for Majane News Agency for several years before becoming a partner and owner of Shoemaker Lumber in 1964.  He dedicated 54 years to the business, retiring at the age of 87.

Albert found joy in the simple pleasures of life.  He loved riding his bicycle on the Ocean City boardwalk, traveling throughout the Caribbean with his family, keeping a close eye on the stock market, and true to his Irish heritage, enjoying a nice glass of whiskey.  He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet nature, and deep devotion to his family.

He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline; his eldest son, Albert; and his brothers, Howard and Billy.

He is survived by his children, Daniel (Liz); Beryl (George Robinson); and Keith (Sunny), all of Ocean City.  He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Albert, George, Grant, Gregory, and Madeline.

A viewing will be held at The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 10:00am to 12:00 noon with service to follow.  Burial will be private at the family’s convenience.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Albert’s home health aides, Natalie and Rachel, whose kindness, compassion, and care allowed him to remain in the comfort of his home during his final years.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Boys Town at www.Boystown.org in Albert’s memory.

Condolences may be left for the family at www.godfreyfuneralhome.com
