BOWIE, Md. — The pilot and two passengers were killed in a plane crash June 20 in Maryland that departed from the Ocean City, N.J., Municipal Airport.
Maryland State Police responded to the fatal crash in Prince George’s County.
The pilot, identified as Yoav Bomrind, 26, of Israel, and two passengers, identified as David Rabinovich, 19, of Israel, and Elad Naidik, 20, of Canada, were pronounced dead at the scene. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation.
According to the Maryland State Police Office of Media Communications, preliminary information indicates that the single-engine Piper Cherokee crashed into a wooded area in Bowie at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday while en route to the Montgomery County Air Park.
Prince George’s County Public Safety Communications received an iPhone crash alert at about 11:45 p.m. indicating a crash in the area of Routes 50 and 301. A ground and aerial search for the aircraft was conducted by multiple first responders from the Prince George’s County Fire Department, Maryland State Police assigned to the Special Operations Division, Criminal Enforcement Division and College Park Barrack, officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Prince George’s County Police Department and the Bowie City Police Department.
The aircraft was located at about 3:45 a.m. June 21 in a wooded area close to a residential area off Scarlett Oak Court in Bowie.
Forensic analysts from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division responded to process the scene for evidence.
Investigators believe the aircraft belongs to a local flight school in Montgomery County. Police believe the aircraft may have been participating in a training flight.
