OCEAN CITY – The 63rd annual Boardwalk Art Show presented by the Ocean City Arts Center is set for Friday through Sunday, Aug. 7-9.
Fine artwork – oils, acrylics, watercolor, paintings, pastels, mixed media, photography, sculpture, hand-pulled prints and more from talented artists from across the region – will be for sale. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7-8, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9.

Lighthouse Aug. 7-8
ATLANTIC CITY – Absecon Lighthouse, New Jersey’s tallest, and the country’s third tallest masonry Lighthouse, will be celebrating National Lighthouse Day on Friday, Aug. 7, with free climbs for kids, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, games and giant bubbles on our two-acre lawn.
The National Lighthouse Day Festival is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a family donation of $10 suggested. Kids up to 12 years old are invited to climb the lighthouse for free (must be accompanied by an adult) from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Absecon Lighthouse will be hosting a Wine Tasting Porch Party on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m., with six different wine selections and gourmet lite fare crafted by White Horse Wine & Spirits. Enjoy musical selections by DJ Franny, a “Wine Pull” raffle, and climb to the top to see spectacular sunset views. OCEAN CITY – Sam Carchidi, an Ocean City resident and a long-time journalist and author, will be signing copies of his latest book, Bullies, on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at allCampus, a sports hat shop on the Ocean City Boardwalk at 1028 Boardwalk. The signing will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m, when Carchidi will talk about all things surrounding the Philadelphia Flyers, past and present.
The book is filled with never-before-told stories about the Flyers, then known as the Broad Street Bullies, during their heyday in the 1970s — and how their Stanley Cup championships changed their lives over the last 50-plus years.
Carchidi covered sports for The Philadelphia Inquirer for more than 40 years and has written six books. Carchidi and Bullies co-author Jeff Hare, a Hollywood director, are talking with production studios about turning their book into a TV series.

School supply drive
in Upper Township
UPPER TOWNSHIP – The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 239 of Tuckahoe is sponsoring a school supply drive this summer for needy students in Upper Township.
New supplies are appreciated. They include notebooks, composition books, two-pocket folders, zippered pencil cases, pencils, highlighters, Elmer’s glue and/or glue sticks, Crayola markers, crayons and colored pencils, scotch tape rolls, masking tape, index cards, black sharpies, loose leaf paper and acrylic paint. Even new backpacks are needed.
Supplies can be dropped off during normal business hours at the following locations: Larry’s 50s Diner on Rt. 50, Tuckahoe; Rooted Wellness, Wayside Village, 38 Tuckahoe Road, Marmora; Salon 21, Rt. 50, Seaville; and each of the three Upper Township schools.
The supply drive will continue from Memorial Day weekend until Aug. 31. Look for the red donation box.

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Library has scheduled a lineup of free concerts at the Cape May branch and bandstand stage in the Cape May County Park and Zoo.
The Arts Int’l Concerto Soloists, a Philadelphia-based professional string orchestra that specializes in classical music, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Aug. 15 at the library.
The Cape Shore Jazz Orchestra is set to perform an outdoor concert at 2 p.m. Aug. 22 at the park and Zoo .
On Aug. 29, the Cape May String Band will be performing traditional string band music at 2 p.m. at the park and zoo.
Registration is not required for the outdoor concerts but is requested for the Arts Int’l Concerto Soloists. Patrons must provide their own seating for the outdoor concerts.

SOMERS POINT — The Somers Point Good Old Days Festival Committee has announced the return of the Run to Remember 5K, a community event dedicated to honoring the courageous men and women who serve as first responders and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
This year’s race carries added significance as our nation marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed America and highlighted the extraordinary courage of first responders.

Al-Anon supports those whose lives have been affected by another person’s alcoholism. Memory Café is a place for those experiencing memory loss and their caregivers and family members. Family Support Group is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) that provides support for adults with a loved one living with a mental health condition.

There is no need to be a church member or from Ocean City to attend. “It is a time to share your story, to tell of your grief and talk of your loved one. Support Group
OCEAN CITY — St. John Lutheran Church, Journey Hospice, and The Shores — a United Methodist Communities (UMC) community — are partnering to offer a monthly Grief Support Group for adults who are navigating the difficult journey of loss.
The group provides a safe, welcoming and confidential space where individuals can come together to share their experiences, listen, and support one another. Whether someone has recently experienced a loss or is still processing grief from years past, all are welcome.
Meetings will be held in person on the second Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to noon at St. John Lutheran Church, 1001 Central Ave.
“Grief is a deeply personal experience, but it doesn’t have to be experienced alone,” group coordinators Beth Gebhart and Michele Musto said. “This group is about honoring each person’s journey and finding hope in shared understanding.”
The group is free and open to all adults, regardless of background or faith.

Crisis Intervention
Families who are experiencing serious difficulties in managing the behavior of children 10 to 17 years old for whom they are responsible can seek assistance through the Atlantic County Juvenile/Family Crisis Intervention Unit (FCIU).
FCIU is a legally mandated program that is available 24 hours a day to intercede in family conflicts and help strengthen the family unit. Its services include short-term crisis stabilization, family assessment, case management, treatment planning and referrals to appropriate community-based services.
FCIU is available to meet in-person by appointment with youth and their families from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 101 Shore Road in Northfield. Appointments can also be conducted by phone or as a virtual meeting to help de-escalate and resolve family conflicts.

for depression
Online screening for depression and postpartum depression is available at mhaac.info/screening.
The confidential screening involves 10 questions related to topics such as sleep habits, appetite, concentration and level of energy. Resources and recommendations are offered at the end of the survey.
