Relax at Southend condo or take short trip to city’s Boardwalk or downtown

OCEAN CITY – Enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the sun rise over the ocean from the wrap-around front porch of the first-floor condo at 5600 Central Ave. in the city’s close-knit Southend neighborhood.

The 1,849-square-foot home features a large, open great room, gourmet kitchen, four bedrooms and three bathrooms just across the street from the pristine beaches of America’s Greatest Family Resort.

The Southend is like a vacation inside a vacation. Located in the narrowest part of the island, there are fewer homes than in other parts of the city and thus less traffic and more space on the beach for setting up a tent and chairs and lying about on the strand all day. The area includes several eateries such as Mike’s Seafood and Captain Bob’s, as well as Mallon’s Homemade Sticky Buns, and is close to Corson’s Inlet State Park, an ocean- and bay-front natural area offering hiking, fishing, crabbing and boating. It’s also close to the bridges to the Strathmere section of Upper Township and Sea Isle City, and about 2 miles away from the 34th Street business district featuring convenience stores, real estate agencies, pizza shops, ice cream and more.

This cozy neighborhood would be terrific in any beach town, but is even better here, in one of the East Coast’s most popular resorts. That’s because if you ever get tired of relaxing, the excitement of the city’s world-famous boardwalk – featuring shops, restaurants and entertainment venues – is less than 5 miles away. The city also has an award-winning walkable downtown shopping area and dedicated watersports district on the bay, as well as multiple public parks and other offerings.

Designed for play rather than work, the home has a gravel yard and mulched beds out front, so no need to mow – ever. It also has maintenance-free vinyl siding.

The ground floor, accessed via a door on the 56th Street side of the home, includes common space, with each of the two floors having access to a one-car garage, full bathroom, small storage area and large storage area, which in this home is tiled for use as bonus space. The bathroom has a tile floor, pedestal sink, built-in bench and one-piece fiberglass shower with a curtain.

Back outside, wooden stairs ascend to the front door, which opens onto a small foyer. The view puts the great in great room, with a full wall of windows and sliders opening up onto that wrap-around porch.

Wide-plank hardwood flooring is found throughout the great room to the left and halfway down the hall to the right leading to the bedrooms.

The home is being sold fully furnished minus a few personal items.

In the front left is the living area, where a sectional sofa and an armchair atop an area rug are centered around a gas-log fireplace flanked by windows. Above the tile and wood surround is a television cubby with three smaller cubbies for electronics. Recessed lighting is overhead. A small seating area perfect for reading and checking email is just inside a triple window with an ocean view.

The kitchen is just steps away and features a granite-topped center island with a Sharp microwave drawer and Danby beverage cooler on one side and space for three stools on the other. Cream-colored Decora cabinets with soft-close, self-close doors and drawers line two walls. Stainless-steel GE appliances include a two-door refrigerator with bottom freezer drawer, a five-burner range/oven with Kenmore Elite hood and a dishwasher just to the right of the stainless-steel sink.

Just on the other side of the island is the dining area in the front right, where an oval table with six chairs site beneath a hanging lamp with eight globes just inside a triple window overlooking the front deck.

Down the hall off the kitchen are the four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a laundry room.

On the left, still on the tiled part of the hallway, is a bathroom with a tile floor, vanity with mirror and light strip above and a one-piece fiberglass tub/shower with a curtain.

Across the hall, behind a louvered door, is the laundry room featuring full-size GE washer and dryer, cabinets and storage shelves, as well as a utility sink.

The first bedroom is located on the right and includes a double bed, dresser and nightstand atop wall-to-wall carpeting. A sliding glass door opens onto the side porch, also offering an ocean view. The closet has a double bi-fold door.

Across the hall are the second and third bedrooms, each with twin beds and carpet.

The master bedroom is located in the back right and features a double bed atop wall-to-wall carpeting, his and hers closets with double bi-fold doors and five windows plus a door to the side porch. The master bathroom has a long vanity with a makeup area and a one-piece fiberglass shower with a curtain.

The corner property has a gravel parking pad up to the one-car garage off the alley out back. Rental income could be about $40,000 plus for the summer season based on $4,000 per week for 10 weeks.

It is listed for $1,124,900 with Disston Vanderslice of Grace Realty. Call (609) 675-1575 or (609) 398-6200 for more information or to set up a tour – either in person or virtually – of this wonderful home.
