Patricia Beckman, 95

Patricia (nee-Ramsey) Beckman, 95, entered into the next phase of eternal life Tuesday, November 19, 2024. She was a loving, supportive, prayerful, and talented wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.

Pat was born in Hollywood, CA, on May 18, 1929. She spent much of her growing years in Philadelphia, PA, with many months over her life in Ocean City, NJ, probably her favorite spot on earth.

She met her husband, James R. Beckman, while in high school in Hamilton, OH, where both their families were living, but their relationship didn’t begin until she was a student at St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN. After she graduated, she and Jim married, and started their family of four, first in Hamilton, then Chillicothe, OH; Charleston, WV;  Cincinnati, OH; Carmel, IN; Cleveland OH; and Defiance, OH.  She and Jim traveled extensively out of the country over the years. After Jim’s retirement they moved to her beloved Ocean City, and then to Bluffton, SC. Finally, they returned to Cleveland to be near their daughter Laurie as she awaited her fifth child.

Pat’s life work was centered on raising her children. A prayerful woman, Catholicism was central in her life. Her vocational calling was as writer and educator, focusing on historical fiction in children’s literature. Her several books included From the Ashes, a part of the Council for Indian Education series, in 1995.

She lived a beautifully spiritual life, gracing the world with love and elegance.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years James R. Beckman, 4 children; Mary (Ken Briggs) Beckman, James M. Beckman, Robert (Patricia Mareda) Beckman, Laurie ( Max) Stark, nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Dorothea (nee-Cotter) Ramsey, and brother David Ramsey.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday Nov 26, 2024 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the MISENCIK FUNERAL Home, 36363 Detroit Rd., Avon. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday Nov. 27, 2024 at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2640 Stoney Ridge Rd., Avon. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Avon.
