Ocean City Beach-block condominium offers sweeping ocean view, easy access to sun and surf

OCEAN CITY — Just steps from the beach, the second-floor condominium at 506 34th St. is spacious and well-designed as a headquarters for a large family to explore the shore.

Sporting five bedrooms and four bathrooms, plus a wide-open great room and multiple decks, the 1,950-square-foot home has areas for gathering or getting away for some quiet time.

Featuring tan cedar-impression siding, the home is part of a four-unit complex between Central and Wesley avenues, with a bottom and top unit in each building flanking a central courtyard with brick pavers and a fountain.

Extensively landscaped, the complex offers room for two cars stacked in an attached garage, as well as a storage room and full bathroom on the ground floor.

Entering off the courtyard, the tiled foyer provides access to the elevator, garage, bathroom and a cabana room that provides additional recreational and storage space.

Back outside, a sheltered stairway leads up to the main entrance, where a door with a leaded-glass window opens onto a tiled foyer.

Bathed in light from its beach-facing windows — including several above eye level — the great room has narrow-plank hardwood flooring. The 12-foot multiangled cathedral ceiling enhances the feeling of spaciousness.

Encompassing half of the great room, the living area features a leather sofa, love seat and chair atop and area rug situated around a gas fireplace with a granite surround, fluted wood sides and a wood mantel with dentil accents. A wall-mounted television hangs above, between east-facing windows offering an ocean view.

A sliding glass door opens onto a sundeck, where morning coffee can be enjoyed amid the sights and sounds of the crashing waves.

A long wood table that seats eight beneath a chandelier is located in the front left, where a trio of windows creates an alcove. Three clerestory windows are located above the sideboard within arm’s reach of the table.

Just steps away, the kitchen features a large granite-topped center island with four stools and solid-wood cabinets. More cabinets with a Corian top and tile backsplash run along two walls. Appliances include a Sub-Zero side-by-wide refrigerator/freezer, a four-burner gas range/oven with a microwave above, a dishwasher to the left of the two-basin sink and an icemaker.

Back in the foyer, the first bedroom is off to the left, next to the elevator and a broom closet.

A long hallway leads back to the other four bedrooms and two hall bathrooms.

On the right is a full bathroom with a tile floor, granite-topped vanity with a long mirror above and a one-piece fiberglass tub/shower with a curtain.

Across the hall, double swinging doors open to reveal a laundry closet complete with a full-size washer and dryer and a shelf.

Next door is the master bedroom. It has a king-size bed flanked by windows beneath a cathedral ceiling that slopes down to each side. A sliding glass door opens onto a private deck.

Located behind a pocket door, the master bathroom has tile on the floor reminiscent of the sea, as well as tile halfway up the wall and in the shower with an underwater theme. There is a triangle Jacuzzi tub, a vanity with his and hers sinks and a glass-enclosed shower. Four clerestory windows facing the beach make the area light and bright.

On the right, the third bedroom has two full-size beds and a large closet with double bi-fold doors.

In the back-left corner, the fourth bedroom has direct access to the final bathroom via a pocket door. The bathroom is similar to the master bathroom in that it has a tile floor and tile hallway up the walls featuring colorful fish. There also is a shower tiled to the ceiling with sliding glass doors.

The final bedroom is in the back-right corner. It has twin beds and a closet with double bi-fold doors.

Ocean City is one of the most popular shore resorts on the East Coast, featuring a 2.5-mile-long oceanfront boardwalk filled with hundreds of shopping, dining and entertainment venues, as well as miles and miles of pristine beaches.

The beach and boardwalk get most of the attention in this seaside resort, but the island has much more to offer. There also is an award-winning downtown business district stretching from Sixth to 14th streets on Asbury Avenue that has expanded onto other nearby streets, offering more than 100 shops and cafes. There’s also the popular watersports district, stretching from Second to Fourth streets on Bay Avenue, where the brave can rent powerboats, go parasailing, join the crew of a pirate ship and take a kayak tour of the back bays. Private and party boat fishing tours are also available.

The home is also conveniently located for getting onto and off the island. Thirty-fourth street heads west, turning into Roosevelt Boulevard and leading to the Garden State Parkway, with exits north and south.

The island’s 34th Street corridor includes a major supermarket, restaurants, ice cream parlors, convenience stores, markets and a gas station.

The property is listed for $2.1 million with Michael Allegretto of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Fox & Roach Realtors, who said it has a great rental history, fetching $7,000 per week in peak season.
