SOMERS POINT – The Auxiliary of Shore Medical Center’s 44th Annual Carole Schiavo Kids Swim for Health raised $4,300 to support patient care and services at Shore Medical Center.
Held at the Mainland Recreation Association (MRA) in Linwood on July 10, the annual fundraiser brought together 73 young swimmers who completed an impressive 5,406 laps in support of their community hospital. Prior to the swim, MRA coach Mike Schiavo established incentive lap goals for each age group, encouraging participants to challenge themselves while raising funds for a meaningful cause.
The Auxiliary hosted an awards celebration at the Mainland Recreation Association July 21, when participants were recognized for both their swimming accomplishments and fundraising efforts. In each age group, the top three fundraisers and the swimmers who completed the most laps received trophies and gift cards. Swimmers who reached their incentive lap goals also earned special prizes before everyone gathered to enjoy pizza with family members, coaches and volunteers.
Named in memory of longtime community supporter Carole Schiavo, the Kids Swim for Health has become one of the Auxiliary’s longest-running traditions. Over the past 44 years, the event has raised more than $335,000 to support Shore Medical Center.
“The Carole Schiavo Kids Swim for Health is about so much more than the dollars raised,” said Lisa DiTroia, director of the Auxiliary of Shore Medical Center. “For 44 years, local children have learned the importance of giving back to their community while having fun with teammates and friends. It’s wonderful to see families return year after year and watch a new generation of swimmers carry on this tradition. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helps make this event possible and to the young swimmers whose generosity continues to make a difference for our patients.”
The Auxiliary extends its sincere appreciation to the swimmers, their families, the coaches and volunteers at the Mainland Recreation Association, and everyone who helped make this year’s event another success.
