Walter Daniel Hughes

Walter Daniel Hughes, known to his family and friends as “Dan,” passed away at home on September 15, 2022, after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. 

Dan graduated from Ocean City High School, Class of 1978.  He then earned his liberal arts degree from Atlantic Community College. Joining the U.S. Air Force, Dan received extensive training in various facets of electronics at the Community College of the Air Force.  He was stationed in Texas, Mississippi, Florida, and Germany. With additional training, Dan also became skilled in carpentry, upholstery, plumbing, blueprints, PC knowledge and property management.  He contributed his vast knowledge to over thirty years of service at Atlantic City’s Golden Nugget, Trump Marina, and Trump Castle.  There, he installed and maintained surveillance/security systems and television apparatus. Dan contributed selflessly to his community.  He was a longtime member of Absecon Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon, facilities manager, and property committee chairman.  He also coached street hockey and Little League football and baseball.  Dan was a member of the Ocean City Masons #171 Lodge, as well as Widows’ Sons Masonic Riding Group, Pillars of Enoch chapter, where he was known as “Chief”.  He is a past president and was chaplain for the group.

Dan was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Slavinski) and his father, Walter V. Hughes.  He is survived  by sons Christopher, Nicholas, and Justin; his mother, Donna Hughes; sisters Dianne Papadinec, Darla Hand, and Deedra Bowen; family pets, Rose, Snickers, and Mack; and a network of in-laws, relatives, and friends.

Services will be held at The Godfrey Funeral Home, 4008 English Creek Avenue, Egg Harbor Twp, NJ  08234, on Saturday September 24, 2022 at 11:00am where friends may call from 10:00am till the time of the service.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jersey Women’s Center, 335 E.
