Villas man charged with attempted murder after shooting

LOWER TOWNSHIP — A Villas man was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after allegedly firing a gun Aug. 29 in the area of the Mulligan Sports Complex.

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Lower Township Police Chief Donald Vanaman announced that officers from the Lower Township Police Department responded at about 10:37 p.m. for the report of multiple gunshots. No one was struck by a bullet.

An investigation conducted by the Lower Township Police Department Detective Bureau and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit identified the suspect as 20-year old Leshaun Davis. 

In the early morning hours of Aug. 31, authorities executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home, where Davis was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Lower Township Police Department. 

Davis was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and lodged at the Cape May County Jail pending court proceedings.
