Thomas M. Egner, 90

Thomas M. Egner, 90, of Ambler, PA and Ocean City, NJ passed peacefully at home in Williamstown, NJ on September 5, 2021.

Tom was born to Herman and Lillian Egner in Philadelphia, PA on July 3, 1931. He grew up in West Philadelphia, graduated form Bartrum High School and the University of Pennsylvania. He spent two years state side serving his country and was hired at the Bell Telephone Company where he spent his entire working career. After retiring, Tom gave back to his community by volunteering at Chestnut Hill Hospital, serving as Judge of Elections and as Board of Director of Solitude (located at the Philadelphia Zoo and formerly the home of William Penn’ grandson) for its restoration. In Ocean City, he was known by the Lifeguards as “Trivia Tom,” always walking the beaches on the central and southern end of the Island offering trivia question and special treats to our dedicated guards. Tom also served at the Central Ocean City Union Chapel as usher and taking care of the grounds of the property. We will remember him for his love for family, friends and even strangers. He was loved by so many and from all different walks of life.

His interment will be a Graveside Service on October 9, 2021 at 12PM EDT at West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia. 

Tom is survived by his daughter Susan Etzweiler (her husband Charles), her son T. Gustave Egner (his wife Christina), four grandchildren, Matthew (wife Paloma), Andrew, Emily and Lily. Tom is predeceased by Ann L. Egner his wife nearly 62 years and his brother Herman H. Egner. Tom’s interment will be a twin burial as he and Herm will be laid to rest at the same time on October 9th. 

A reception will follow at the home of T.G. Egner in Williamstown, NJ. All are welcomed to come and pay their respects. In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to the Central Ocean City Union Chapel at P.O. Box 2182, Ocean City, NJ 08226-8182.
