Spacious Riviera single large enough for family, friends with water view

OCEAN CITY — It’s big and it’s beautiful.

The three-story waterfront home at 23 Walnut Road — in the city’s popular Riviera section — has six bedrooms, six bathrooms and a wide-open great room with a gourmet kitchen, as well as a bounty of bonus spaces and 52 feet of anchorage on Sunny Harbor with an in-deck swimming pool.

The 3,868-square-foot home was built in 2005 by Price Brothers Construction, and unlike many waterfront dwellings where the street side is an afterthought, this one has curb appeal aplenty.

A grassy yard with mulched beds bursting with hydrangeas, shore grasses and low shrubs fronts the home, which has a paver parking pad on the left leading up to the two-car attached garage.

Sided in cedar shake, the home also has interesting architectural features and multiple awnings — a must for a classic shore home aesthetic.

A gate in the vinyl fence to the left opens onto a steppingstone path leading to the back deck, while a shrub-lined paver pathway leads around the right to a side porch and small grassy area before giving way to the composite decking.

Out back, the deck takes up the entire space, offering multiple seating areas — one shaded by an awning — an outside shower, pool and metal ramp leading down to a floating dock with two boat slips. A covered back porch has doors leading into the living room.

Back out front on the small, covered porch a solid-wood door with a leaded-glass insert and side panels opens onto a tiled spacious foyer with shadow-box wainscoting. Part of the foyer is open to the second floor, providing natural light from windows above. The home is painted in white and light tan.

The home’s design provides a view of the lagoon from the front door, drawing both the eye and the body through the house.

A hall off the foyer to the left has narrow-plank hardwood flooring and leads to the garage and a powder room with Tuscan-style tile on the floor and halfway up the walls, as well as a granite-topped vanity.

Across the hall is the first bedroom. An entry hall has a closet with double sliding doors on one side. The bedchamber itself has an area rug atop hardwood flooring, a wall-mounted television and a full bathroom with a Corian-topped KraftMaid vanity beneath a wide mirror. The corner fiberglass shower has a swinging glass door.

Back in the main hall, the laundry room is to the right. It features an in-counter utility sink and full-size washer and dryer with cabinets above and below the granite counter. Another counter with more cabinets is on the other side, next to a door to the side porch.

From the foyer, step down into the fantastic living room with hardwood flooring featuring a dark-wood inlay. The double windows to either side of the sliding glass door provide a view of the lagoon and what’s going on outside on the deck.

A large sectional sofa atop an area rug is centered around a gas fireplace with a wood mantel beneath a wall-mounted television. A granite-topped wet bar in the corner has a stainless-steel sink with a tile backsplash, glass-front cabinets and a wine rack with a GE Monogram beverage cooler below.

The left side of the great room is taken up by the kitchen and dining.

A three-sided center island has two levels with four barstools for extra seating. A dacor microwave is below the granite countertop in the island, while three pendant lights hang above.

White KraftMaid cabinets with granite counters line two walls. High-end appliances include a KitchenAid side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, a stainless-steel GE Profile four-burner gas range with a hood and a GE Profile dishwasher next to the double-basin stainless-steel sink.

Just steps away is the dining room, where a long table that seats eight sits beneath a hanging lamp. Four windows overlook the patio and waterway. Surround sound speakers are overhead.

Back in the foyer, the handsome staircase features hardwood treads and white risers, a color scheme duplicated in the white spindles and wood railing of the banister. The wainscoting continues up the stairs, whose ceiling is open to the second floor.

A long hallway on the second floor offers a view through the front oval window.

Four bedrooms are located on this floor, each with its own bathroom.

The home’s second bedroom, in the front right, has a peaked cathedral ceiling above wall-to-wall carpeting. Its bathroom has a high peaked ceiling and Corian-topped vanity. The tiled shower has sliding glass doors.

The third bedroom, in the rear, has an entry hall with a walk-in closet, as well as wall-to-wall carpeting and a wall-mounted television. Its bathroom has a Corian-topped vanity and a fully tiled shower with sliding glass doors.

The fourth bedroom is perfect for a small family since it has a bathtub in its bathroom.

The master suite is at the end of the hall, in the back of the house. It has its own living room with hardwood flooring, a gas fireplace and wall-mounted TV in front of a sofa and two recliners, just inside the cozy, private back deck.

A wide doorway leads to the bedchamber, where the cathedral ceiling slopes down on two sides. Four windows on the back provide natural light and a view of Sunny Harbor.

Pocket doors in a hall to the bathroom open onto his and hers walk-in closets. The bathroom has a fully tiled shower with a swinging glass doors and a wide KraftMaid vanity with a granite top beneath a long mirror. A large, deep tub with jets is the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine after a stressful day of shopping or boating.

Another set of steps leads up to the third floor, which may be the best part of the house.

It’s a full suite with an open layout featuring a living room, bedroom and bathroom. A Lighthouse cupola in the center provides natural light, as does the glass door opening onto a private deck.

There also is a walk-in closet and two other smaller closets, as well as access to attic storage space.

The home is listed for $3.15 million with William Godfrey of Marr Agency. Call (609) 780-7363 or (609) 399-7036 for more information or to set up an appointment to tour this wonderful home.
