Sharon Rose Berenato, 78

Sharon Rose (O’Donnell) Berenato, 78, of Ocean City, formerly of Washington Township and Camden, passed away peacefully at Shore Memorial Hospital on December 1, 2022, surrounded by her family. 

Sharon was born in Camden to Edward O’Donnell Sr. and Almah Barlow on September 22, 1944. Sharon spent her childhood in Camden and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. As a child, she enjoyed spending time with her friends at the local Shamrock, where she met her husband, Joseph Berenato. Sharon and Joseph started a family in the Birches at Washington Township, where they made many lifelong friends. Sharon worked as a legal secretary and real estate agent until chasing her dream of owning a corner store at the shore.

Sharon and Joseph moved their family to Ocean City, New Jersey, to open Berenato’s Corner Deli in 1989. Sharon is best known for her commitment to family and the business. During the off-season, Sharon traded the cold winter months for the warmth of Florida. Sharon cherished surrounding herself with family on the annual Disney vacation.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Joseph P. Berenato Jr.; children Joseph, Michael, and Sharon; Sister Lillian; Grandchildren Neal, Melissa, Ryan, Felicia, Joey, and Martina; Great-grandchildren Cole and Crew.

Sharon was preceded in death by her brother, Edward O’Donnell Sr.; Father, Edward O’Donnell Jr.; Mother Almah Barlow.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sharon Rose (O’Donnell) Berenato is scheduled for 12:00 noon on December 9 at St. Frances Cabrini Church of St. Damien Parish, 2nd Street at Atlantic Avenue in Ocean City, NJ where her visitation will be from 10 am until 11:45 am. A graveside burial ceremony at Seaside Cemetery, Palermo will follow mass. Condolences can be sent to 47 Atlantic Avenue, Ocean City, NJ 08226. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sharon’s memory to St. Jude’s or The Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania.
