Second-floor condominium centrally located for access to all of island’s attractions

OCEAN CITY — The second-floor condominium at 1400 Asbury Ave., Unit 2, is perfect for a family on the go, located at the edge of the city’s downtown shopping district and just blocks from the beach and boardwalk.

With two bedrooms and one bathroom, it is ideal for empty-nesters or a young family looking for a beach getaway right in the heart of the action.

It’s set on the corner of Asbury and 14th Street, caddy-corner from Johnny B Goode Ice Cream Parlor and just a couple of blocks from more than 100 shops, cafes and boutiques, including the Ocean City Coffee Co., Boyar’s Market, the Fractured Prune doughnut shop and Bennie’s Bread.

The triplex sports tan vinyl siding with white trim. A stone lawn gives way to mulched flowerbeds with evergreen shrubs that wrap around the corner, created a lush landscape that needs little attention.

A sheltered staircase off 14th Street ascends to each of the three units, with one on the first floor and two on the second. All three homeowners share the costs of common area maintenance.

Appliances include a four-burner range with a microwave above and a standard refrigerator/freezer. The ceiling here also is sloped, with two windows high above catching the afternoon light.

A hallway leads back to the two bedrooms, a bathroom and laundry closet.

The first bedroom, to the left, has a triple window overlooking Asbury Avenue and another facing south. There are two large closets each with double bi-fold doors, so plenty of storage space for bikinis and towels. A queen- or even king-size bed would fit with ease.

Out in the hall, the bathroom is to the left. It has tile flooring, a wood vanity and a one-piece fiberglass tub/shower with a curtain. A linen closet is just outside the door and the laundry closet is across the hall.

On the right, the final bedroom is smaller than the first but still large enough for a queen-size bed and a dresser.

Ocean City is one of the most popular shore resorts on the East Coast, featuring a 2.5-mile-long oceanfront boardwalk filled with hundreds of shopping, dining and entertainment venues, as well as miles and miles of pristine beaches. There also is an award-winning downtown business district centered on Asbury Avenue and a watersports district on Bay Avenue between Second and Fourth street.

A great location doesn’t only mean beachfront or bayfront on this 8-mile-long island — there are 10 distinct neighborhoods, each with its own characteristics. The Gardens is popular with many for its slow pace, huge beaches and winding, pedestrian-friendly streets. The Riviera is a boater’s paradise with many Mediterranean-style homes set right on inland lagoons. The Central neighborhood is bustling with business both downtown and on the boardwalk, while the Southend is narrow with fewer homes and lots of room to stretch out. The Goldcoast has some of the best beachfront homes on the island, while Merion Park offers beautiful sunsets over the wetlands.
