SEAVILLE – The Rotary Club of Ocean City – Upper Township dinner meeting for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, will feature a program by Atlantic Cape Community College President Dr. Jason Abreu.

It will be at The Tavern, 16 Route 50, Seaville.

Abreu became the 10th president of Atlantic Cape on July 1. A dedicated higher education leader with more than two decades of experience, he is committed to advancing student success, fostering community partnerships, and strengthening institutional excellence.

Prior to joining Atlantic Cape, Abreu served as Vice President for Student Affairs at Tarrant County College’s Trinity River Campus in Fort Worth, Texas. He earned his doctorate and graduate degrees from Nova Southeastern University and his bachelor of arts degree from Florida International University.

BBQ fundraiser at

Tabernacle Baptist

OCEAN CITY – Tabernacle Baptist Church is having its annual BBQ fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the church at the corner of West Avenue and Eighth Street, Ocean City.

It will be from noon until sold out.

The cost is $25 for plate for ribs and chicken and $30 per plate for Texas beef brisket.

‘Pint Knight’ Oct. 8

CLERMONT – Join Knights of Columbus Council 9113 for its second annual “Pint Knight” at Slacktide Brewery, 1879 Route 9 in Clermont. 

Join in for fun, friends and food truck fare starting at 5 p.m. Oct. 9.

Slacktide Brewery will donate $1 from every pint sold to Knights of Columbus Council 9113. This will allow the Knights to continue sending care packages to military troops overseas, helping homeless youth at the Atlantic City Covenant House and providing funding for the annual Christmas Holiday Helping Hand program. 

Knights of Columbus Council 9113 meets at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of every month at Saint Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Marmora in the church hall. 

Golf fundraiser

set for Oct. 10

OCEAN VIEW — Beacon Animal Rescue, the nonprofit, volunteer-based animal rescue serving Cape May, Atlantic and Cumberland counties, has scheduled its 3rd annual Golf Fundraiser for noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 10 at the BigLittle Nine in Cape May Court House.

This will be the third year that Big Little Nine, owned and operated by Morey’s Piers and Beachfront Water Parks, will host Beacon for a fun, family-friendly day of nine holes sprawling over 89 serene acres of meadows, willow oak trees, ponds and waterfalls. 

This year, MudHen Brewing Co. will be on site, providing its award-winning beers to thirsty golfers.

The fundraiser is open to experienced and novice golfers of all ages. The cost is $40 per golfer, with a portion of proceeds going directly to support Beacon’s lifesaving mission.

NORTHFIELD – The Friends of the Otto Bruyns Public Library of Northfield is having a Book & Bake Sale 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the library, 241 Mill Road.

Bingo Fundraiser

UPPER TOWNSHIP – The Country Shore Women’s Club will be hosting a Bingo Fundraiser where prizes are gift certificates to area restaurants.

The fundraiser will be Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Upper Township Community Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. and games start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. 

Tables can be reserved with advanced purchase of eight or more tickets.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to the local food pantries and local scholarships. Come out for a night of fun while raising funds for these worthy organizations.

SEAVILLE – Talking about final wishes and end-of-life planning is not always easy, but having a plan can provide peace of mind for individuals and their loved ones.

To help community members better understand their options, NJHealth Hospice and Palliative Care, and Godfrey Funeral Home will host Coffee, Confections & Conversation from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Dino’s Diner, 31 Route 50, Seaville.

The free educational event will feature discussion with Ottilie Parsons, RN, of NJHealth Hospice and Palliative Care and Sallie Godfrey of Godfrey Funeral Home. 

During this informal gathering, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about advance care planning, final wishes, healthcare choices, funeral considerations and the importance of communicating preferences with loved ones. “Many people know they should have these conversations, but they’re often unsure where to begin,” Parsons said. “Our goal is to provide a welcoming environment where people can get accurate information, ask questions, and leave feeling more prepared and empowered.” 

Attendees will enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, and sweet treats while engaging in an open discussion and learning about planning ahead and making informed decisions.

SOMERS POINT – Celtic singer Charlie Zahn is featured at the Cape Shore Chorale’s special fundraising event 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Grace Lutheran Church, 11 East Dawes Ave., Somers Point.

A $50 donation includes a night filled with musical entertainment, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and beverages. The public is invited. The proceeds allow the choir to perform free concerts throughout the year.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – The Community FoodBank of New Jersey has launched its sixth annual #GreatBigDiaperDrive which runs now through the end of October. 

Spearheaded by the CFBNJ volunteer group Women Fighting Hunger, the drive seeks to end diaper need by helping the one in two families who struggle to afford diapers.

Individuals and organizations are invited to support the drive by running their own drives or making product or cash donations. Diapers, baby wipes and creams, as well as adult incontinence products, are welcomed. The honorees will receive CVAC Valor Awards for service that strengthens the organization’s mission and creates a brighter future for local veterans in need.

The luncheon will unite supporters, volunteers, businesses and community leaders to celebrate service and raise essential funds as requests for assistance continue to grow.

Since 2013, CVAC has helped more than 300 veterans and their families and distributed $275,000 in assistance.

TUCKAHOE – The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 239 of Tuckahoe (Upper Township) is having a membership drive until Dec.1. 

Any person of any age who is related to a U.S. veteran – grandparent, parent, sibling or spouse – is welcome to join.  A copy of their relative’s DD214 is required for membership. Spouses and children of active duty service members are also welcome to join and have to show current military ID.  

To join, please come to the auxiliary’s monthly meeting the third Monday of the month, including Oct. 19 and Nov. 16. The meetings are 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post 298, 525 Washington Ave., Woodbine.

AARP: Medicare

OCEAN CITY – AARP Ocean City Chapter 1062 will host John Billetdoux, founder of JBA Insurance Brokers, on Oct. 16 to discuss Medicare enrollment. 

Billetdoux will speak on the various plans, the differences between Medicare Supplemental Insurance (Medigap) and Medicare Advantage, what it takes to change a plan, including premium increases, formulary changes, etc. and answer questions. 

Medicare Open Enrollment is Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.  Medicare health and drug plans can make changes each year that can affect cost, coverage, providers, and pharmacies.

Soroptimist International of Cape May County is seeking applicants for its 2026-27 “Live Your Dream” Education and Training Awards for Women. This year there are three awards being offered; two for $2,000 and one for $2,500. 

The awards are presented to Cape May County women who provide primary financial support to their dependents (children and family) and who are enrolled or accepted in a vocational/skills training or undergraduate degree program.  

Recipients are able to use the awards to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, child care and transportation.

NJ Health is looking for people who are willing to share their time, talents and compassion visiting with hospice patients. A pleasant conversation and a cup of coffee can make a difference for a hospice patient.

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Library System hosts Al-Anon, Memory Café and Family Support Groups.

Al-Anon supports those whose lives have been affected by another person’s alcoholism. Memory Café is a place for those experiencing memory loss and their caregivers and family members. Family Support Group is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) that provides support for adults with a loved one living with a mental health condition.

Al-Anon is held at 11 a.m. each Thursday and Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Lower Cape branch in Villas.

Memory Café is held at the Cape May Court House branch one Monday per month.

OCEAN CITY — The Grief Support Group, open to any adult who is grieving the death of a loved one, is invited to attend a safe and caring gathering at 6:30 p.m. every other Tuesday year-round at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, corner of Eighth Street and Central Avenue, Ocean City. 

There is no need to be a church member or from Ocean City to attend. “It is a time to share your story, to tell of your grief and talk of your loved one. It is a place where you may express your feelings, without judgment, nor fixing. Everything is confidential and you, as well, are privileged and entrusted with the heart-felt stories of others. No matter when your loss, it is healing to acknowledge its place in your life.”

Support Group

OCEAN CITY — St. John Lutheran Church, Journey Hospice, and The Shores — a United Methodist Communities (UMC) community — are partnering to offer a monthly Grief Support Group for adults who are navigating the difficult journey of loss.

The group provides a safe, welcoming and confidential space where individuals can come together to share their experiences, listen, and support one another. Whether someone has recently experienced a loss or is still processing grief from years past, all are welcome.

Meetings will be held in person on the second Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to noon at St. John Lutheran Church, 1001 Central Ave.

“Grief is a deeply personal experience, but it doesn’t have to be experienced alone,” group coordinators Beth Gebhart and Michele Musto said. “This group is about honoring each person’s journey and finding hope in shared understanding.”

The group is free and open to all adults, regardless of background or faith.

Atlantic City – Twice monthly, a group is offered to individuals who live with clutter challenges and “too much stuff.” Strategies, education, support, goal-setting, and other related topics will be covered.

Crisis Intervention

Families who are experiencing serious difficulties in managing the behavior of children 10 to 17 years old for whom they are responsible can seek assistance through the Atlantic County Juvenile/Family Crisis Intervention Unit (FCIU).

FCIU is a legally mandated program that is available 24 hours a day to intercede in family conflicts and help strengthen the family unit. Its services include short-term crisis stabilization, family assessment, case management, treatment planning and referrals to appropriate community-based services.

FCIU is available to meet in-person by appointment with youth and their families from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 101 Shore Road in Northfield. Appointments can also be conducted by phone or as a virtual meeting to help de-escalate and resolve family conflicts.

Free screening

for depression 

Online screening for depression and postpartum depression is available at mhaac.info/screening.

The confidential screening involves 10 questions related to topics such as sleep habits, appetite, concentration and level of energy. Resources and recommendations are offered at the end of the survey. 

Anyone who wants to take the screening but needs assistance can call The Mental Health Association in Atlantic County at (609) 652-3800. Staff are available throughout the year by phone or by appointment. No cost, no insurance needed.
