Ruth M. Halliday

Ruth M. Halliday died Oct. 7, 2026.

Born May 9, 1934 in Collingswood, NJ the beloved daughter of Laura and Russell Moore and sister to Russell Jr., Alice, Bette, and Louise Moore.

Ruth was a graduate of Collingswood High School where she met her late husband Albert F. Halliday and started a family for the ages. Ruth and Al had five children in Collingswood before moving to the south end of Ocean City in 1966. The “south end” was a different world in 1966 and Ruth built a special place for the family with so many memories.

Soon after moving to Ocean City Ruth went to work for the family insurance business of Chattin-Halliday Insurance Co. while managing the affairs on the home front. Ruth was a very efficient account manager in the day. In 1991 the family business was sold and became The McMahon Agency where Ruth worked until deciding to get into the construction business. She then went to work for Halliday Leonard General Contractors where she became insurance specialist and developed many close relations throughout the community.

Aside from Ruth’s career life she was a frequent patron of “Ready’s Coffee Shop” along with “Sugar n Spice” market and “Kessel’s Korner”. Ruth and Al were dedicated members of the First Presbyterian church for over 50 years where Ruth lead her bible study group which brought her so much joy.  Ruth and Al set the example for their children and grandchildren prioritizing faith and family throughout their lives.

Ruth’s main focus in life was her family who visited her regularly. Her family grew from five children, Scott (Janie), Andrew (Lorraine), Craig (Amy), Kevin (Viva), Susan (Matthew) to eighteen grandchildren and forty one great grandchildren. Ruth was dedicated, devoted and entirely immersed in her family. Her kind, comforting and sweet touch was present to all in her family and all who knew her. To know her was to love her.

Ruth’s sweet touch was also accompanied by a fierce and ferocious presence at any OCHS sporting event. Her intensity level and protectionist behavior at any football game or wrestling match was nothing you wanted to mess with. Through the sporting events, church activities and community venues Ruth and Al created bonds that have lasted for life.

Ruth and Al moved to The Shores at Wesley Manor in 2023. The family would like to sincerely thank those who cared and comforted them through their stay. Most importantly, the family would also like to thank Shore Medical Center for the care and compassion they experienced for their medical needs over the years when they needed care.

Ruth’s Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 11 O’clock at First Presbyterian Church of Ocean City, 7th Street at Wesley Avenue, Ocean City, NJ where her viewing will begin at 9 O’clock.

She will be buried next to her beloved husband Al immediately following the church service.

In memory of Ruth and the newborn chimes, donations can be made to Shore Medical Center, Maternity Unit, at 100 Medical Way, Somers Point, NJ 08244.

Arrangements by The Godfrey Funeral Home of Ocean City.  Condolences for the family may be left at www.godfreyfuneralhome.com
