Police: Human remains found belong to Lower Township man

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — Officials say human remains discovered earlier this year in Middle Township belong to a Lower Township man.

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland, Chief Tracey Super of the Middle Township Police Department and Chief Donald Vanaman Jr. of the Lower Township Police Department announce that human remains found in Middle

Township on March 3, 2026, were positively identified as Benjamin J. Beason, 42, of Lower Township.

Beason was reported missing to the Lower Township Police Department on May 22, 2024.

As officials announced earlier this year, a Cape May County resident was walking in a wooded area in the

Whitesboro section of Middle Township Marcy 3 when they discovered what appeared to be a human skull. The

discovery was immediately reported to the Middle Township Police Department. A subsequent coordinated

search by law enforcement and search and rescue personnel resulted in the recovery of additional skeletal

remains, officials said.

An examination of the human remains was conducted by the New Jersey State Police Forensic Anthropology

Unit. The findings were subsequently forwarded to the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Based

upon the examination and findings, the human remains were positively identified as those of Beason.

The cause and manner of death still remain under investigation.

Prosecutor Sutherland stated that the investigation remains ongoing, and that additional information will

be released as it becomes available.

Prosecutor Sutherland urges anyone with information regarding this investigation to submit an

anonymous tip through the Prosecutor’s Office website at cmcpo.tips or directly to the Prosecutor’s Office at (609) 465-1135.
