OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City High School volleyball team was playing for the Cape-Atlantic League crown Tuesday evening after the Sentinel sports section went to press.
The Red Raider girls (22-1) are the third seed in the tournament. They were facing top seed Our Lady of Mercy Academy (16-4) in the finals.
Ocean City beat No. 6 seed Absegami 10-11) 3-1 in the opening round – 25-21, 25-20, 16-25 and 25-16. Junior Bradee Boyd had 31 kills in the game and freshman Rylee Boyd had 24 assists. Gabrielle Erace led the team in digs with 12 and Brynn Williams led in service points with 13. Brooke Sutor had 11 service points and five kills.
In the next round, Ocean City beat No. 2 seed Atlantic Tech (16-5) in straight sets, 25-19, 25-17 and 25-16. Bradee Boyd had 25 kills to go with 18 service points and 14 aces and Rylee Boyd had 17 assists.
OLMA beat No. 4 Cedar Creek (15-8) 3-0. Kaitlyn Rambo leads OLMA with 129 kills and teammates Natalie D’Ottavio and Khalia Lewis have 101 and 93, respectively.
When the two teams met earlier this season, Ocean City won 2-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-13).
The Red Raiders are second in power points to Moorestown in the South Jersey Group III standings. Tournament seeding was scheduled for Tuesday; the Ocean City girls should get home matches in the tournament, which begins Nov. 4.
Field hockey
The Ocean City field hockey team (8-6-1) was third in power points headed into this week behind Clearview (16-3) and Hammonton (15-3). The seeding will give the Red Raiders home field to start the tournament, which begins Nov. 3.
The Mainland girls (2-13-1) were ranked 18th.
Boys soccer: Big
upset powers Raiders
The Ocean City boys soccer team (13-6) got a huge boost in power points Friday when they upset Moorestown, the No. 2 seed in the South Jersey Coaches Cup Tournament.
The Red Raider boys were the 15th seed and beat Moorestown 2-1 behind goals from Luke Tjoumakaris in the first half and Joey Goodman in the send half. Goodman assisted on Tjoumakaris’ goal and Chase Bowman provided the assist on Goodman’s goal.
Ocean City followed that with a 1-1 shootout win over No. 10 Seneca Monday evening in the Coaches Cup. Goodman scored on an assist from Bowman for the victory. Goalie Eddie Fuller made nine saves in the game.
The win now has Ocean City at No. 3 Washington Townshp at 6 p.m. today (Oct. 29). In the other Coaches Cup semifinal, No. 1 St. Augustine faces No. 4 Shawnee. The final is 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
With the win over Moorestown just before the seedings cutoff, Ocean City moved into the No. 5 spot in power points.
Mainland Regional (9-6-2) was No. 8.
That should give both teams home games in the playoffs.

girls socer standings
The Mainland Regional girls (11-5) were eighth in power points in South Jersey Group III and Ocean City (8-7-3) is 12th.
That should give the Mustangs a home game in the sectional, but the Ocean City girls will be on the road.
Seeding for the tournament is today (Wednesday, Oct. 29). Games begin Nov. 5.

The Ocean City and Mainland Regional cross-country teams will compete this Saturday at Dream Park in the South Jersey Group III sectional championship.
The Red Raider boys and girls teams are the defending South Jersey champions.
