Ocean City girls swimmers beat A.C., Middle Twp.

After losing the season opener to Mainland Regional, the Ocean City High School girls swim team bounced back with dominating wins over Atlantic City and Middle Township.

Against Atlantic City on Feb. 23, the Red Raider girls won 115-55, taking first place in all but two events.

Katie Barlow, Alex Antonov, Abby Maglietta and Kelsea Cooke won the opening 200-meter medley relay in a time of 2 minutes, 13.04 seconds.

Atlantic City’s Megan Fox took the 200 freestyle in 2:10.31.

Three of the opening relay members – Antonov, Barlow and Maglietta – came back to win the next three events.

Antonov took the 200 individual medley in 2:31.81, Barlow won the 50 freestyle in 29.3 seconds and Maglietta won the 100 butterfly in 1:16.05.

Teammate Olivia Scherbin made it four in a row by taking the 100 freestyle in 1:02.12.

Fox won Atlantic City’s only other event, the 500 freestyle, in 4:38.93.

Antonov, Cooke, Lilly Teofanova and Scherbin teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.95.

Barlow won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:12.58 and Antonov took the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.51.

Scherbin, Maglietta, Teofanova and Barlow wrapped things up with a win in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 4:20.51.

Middle Twp. 51

On Saturday, Feb. 27, the Red Raider girls beat Middle Township, 119-51.

Sydney Rossiter, Skye Carlin, Maglietta and Cooke won the 200 medley relay in 2:07.17.

Callie Bellwoar won the 200 freestyle in 2:15.35 and Maglietta took the 200 individual medley in 2:32.62.

Middle’s Sophia Braun won the 50 freestyle in 26.39 seconds.

Vanna Kelly won the 100 butterfly for the Red Raider girls in 1:10.96, then Braun took the 100 freestyle in 1:00.27.

Ocean City’s Ava Kelly won the 500 freestyle in 6:17.65 and Cooke, Bellwoar, Michaela Carroll and Breanna Fabi took first place in the 200 freestyle relay. Their time was 1:53.80.

Maglietta won the 100 backstroke in 1:07.44 and teammate Elizabeth Abbott won the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.25.

Maglietta, Bellwoar, Kelly and Rossiter combined to win the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay, in 4:15.72.

The Red Raider girls are 2-1 on the season.

They were scheduled to swim at Egg Harbor Township Monday, host Cape May County Technical School Tuesday, and will be at the Hess Complex to swim against Cedar Creek on Friday.
