Michael R. Davis, Sr., 71

Michael R. Davis, Sr. passed away April 25, 2022.  He was 71 years old.  Mike graduated from Penns Grove High School, Class of 1968.  He also attended Glassboro State College (Rowan) in NJ.  

Mike was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Susan Davis (DiPietro) of Carney’s Point, NJ; along with all of Mike’s Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and a couple of his friends. Hopefully, Our Lord will have our beloved Yorkie, Rosie with him to welcome Mike at Heaven’s Pearly Gates.                                                                                                                                          

Surviving is his wife, Kathy Davis (Hooks) of almost 49 years.  His daughter, Kristin M Davis, her daughters, Cayleigh and Jocelyn Frambes. His son, Michael R Davis, Jr., his wife, Kristy Davis (Dennison), their children, Bia, Michael, Annabella, and Stephen. His sister, Mary Mazza (Davis), her daughter, Marianne Murphy, her husband, Tom, their sons, Brian and Aidan.  Also, his nephew, Raymond Mazza Jr.  Many cousins, from NJ, California, DE, Florida, etc. Mike’s brother and sister in law’s are Harry Hooks, Bill Hooks, wife Dora (Drabold), and Rick, wife, Kristy Hooks.  Their children and grandchildren.  Mike’s longtime friends, Ed and Bev Covert, plus many more forever friends, and coworkers.   

Mike loved his family and friends.  He was a loving father and grandfather. He was an enthusiastic workaholic. At 16 years old Mike began working for A&P Tea Company.  A couple of times, Mike had had his own businesses, a Deli Pizzeria, and a Supermarket.  More recent years in his career, Mike was the Acme Markets (Albertson’s) Store Director of Large Supermarkets down the NJ Shore, and in Rehoboth DE.  Mike was well educated in the supermarket business.  If you had a question about anything he could answer it or find the solution to solve the problem at hand.  

Good times were spent with family and friends down the Jersey Shore, and DE Beaches.  Mike’s favorite ways to enjoy himself, when not working was taking his boat out with Kathy, and others in the back bays, taking Cruises to the Caribbean or traveling to Italy. These were happy times.  Years ago, work related assignments took Mike & Kathy overseas to Romania and Warshaw. Mike was an avid, and diehard Eagles Sport Fan. Mike’s real love was to play music with his previous Classic Rock Band, Turning Point. The Band performed throughout South Jersey at many Bars, Events, The Riverview Deck, Atlantic City, Yesterday’s outside of OCNJ, Ventnor, Egg Harbor City, Wildwood, the Stone Pony, other places, and Venues.  His band members and lifelong friends were Mike Collins, Dave Brown, Steve Parker, Jack Meili. Previous Band Members were John Lawless, Bill Monell, and others. 

Mike lost his battle against Liver Cancer and Parkinson’s. Many thanks to all doctors, nurses, ambulance services, etc. at Beebe Healthcare, Christiania Healthcare, Einstein Hospital.  Also, thanks to his loving daughter, Kristin, family, and friends, Patty and Sandy for their help and care. More recently to wonderful staff of Seasons Hospice Care/Accent Care.  Between family, friends, Season’s Hospice/Accent Care, and all Medical Staff Mike’s journey was made easier.  

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 6th, 2022 at Melson’s Funeral Home Long Neck Chapel, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, Del. 19966, where friends can gather after 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
