Lynne Fiore, 77

Lynne Ellen Fiore, 77, of Ocean City, NJ, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday evening, May 15, 2021.

Lynne was born in Greensburg, PA, in 1944.  She graduated from Montrose PA Area High School in 1962 and won a Rotary International Exchange Student award to study the following year in France.  On her return to the US, she earned her BA in French language studies at Penn State University.  She was drawn to the intricacies and structure of language and pursued studies in linguistics at the Philadelphia College of the Bible (now Cairn University).  Subsequently, she earned a BA in Linguistics at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris, and an MA in Linguistics at the University of Texas, Arlington.

Lynne’s linguistics expertise and desire to serve God led her to the work of Wycliffe Bible Translators, whose vision it is to translate the Bible into every language so that all peoples might understand it and be transformed by it.  She devoted her entire career to furthering the goals of Wycliffe in Ivory Coast, Cameroun, Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso), and France from 1970 to 2015.  After her retirement she lived in Ocean City, NJ, and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, which had supported her work with Wycliffe for many years.

Lynne’s life was fully committed to serving God and to bearing witness to God’s love to others.  She will be sorely missed and remembered for her warm smile and caring, generous, and energetic spirit.  As love is eternal, she will ever be a part of us.

Lynne was preceded in death by her parents, W. Victor and Evelyn G. Fiore, former residents of Longport, NJ.  She is survived by her five siblings:  Arneita Fiore Hinds (Dale) of Phoenixville, PA; Janice Fiore of Glenside, PA; William Fiore (Linda) of Clarks Summit, PA; Sandra Fiore Readding (Gerry) of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; and Jay Fiore (Ellen) of Los Gatos, CA; and by her aunt Nancy Gerhardt Frain of Ephrata, PA, her uncle Frank Fiore of Altoona, PA, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Ocean City at a future date.  If desired, memorial gifts may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, 701 Wesley Ave., Ocean City, NJ  08226 (www.firstpresocnj.net), Wycliffe Bible Translators (www.wycliffe.org) or to a charity of your choosing.
