Julie Lou Krothe, 84

Julie Lou Krothe (nee Ledger), 84, of Ocean City, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2022. Julie was born in Ionia, Michigan.  Julie’s biological mother passed away during childbirth and she was placed in an orphanage until age 6.  She was then adopted by Lewis and Lucille Ledger.  She lived her early years in Belding, Michigan, and later in Philadelphia, Hollywood, PA, and Ocean City.  Julie graduated from Lincoln High School in Philadelphia.

She met and married her late husband, Benjamin Krothe IV, in Philadelphia.  They then moved to Hollywood, Pennsylvania, and started a family. Julie was a loving and devoted mother to her two children, Benjamin and LuAnn.  Julie was an Abington Township school crossing guard for many years.  She loved life and enjoyed children. She was kind and caring and made everyone around her feel cherished and loved.  She attended St. Mark’s Reformed Episcopal Church and was active in organizing the annual church picnic where she would be found dressed as a clown painting children’s faces and sculpting balloons.  Julie enjoyed the simple things in life, her flower and tomato gardens, painting, drawing, knitting, crocheting, and reading.

Julie was a wonderful, caring grandmother to 8 and great grandmother to 2.  Her greatest enjoyment came from being surrounded by her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, LuAnn Robertson, and her husband, William, of Ocean City, NJ; son Benjamin Krothe V of Lancaster, PA; She leaves 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; Caitlin (Beausang) and husband Austin, William, and Bradley Robertson; Julie, Benjy, and Rachel Krothe; Chris Mejia and wife Emily; Jessica Atherholt and husband Steve; and great-grandchildren Aiden and Aanja Atherholt. She was also lovingly supported by her nephew Daniel Foglio, good friend Debie Fasy and other family and friends who loved her. She also leaves her beloved dogs, Gracie and Rhea.   A Celebration of her life will be scheduled in the near future. For condolences to the family, visit www.godfreyfuneralhome.com
