Holy Trinity Episcopal Church welcomes new rector

OCEAN CITY – After a year-long period of discernment, the Very Rev. Jay Angerer was selected as Holy Trinity’s new rector.

Father Jay was born in Delaware, raised in Virginia, and was ordained in 2002. Since then, he  has served as the campus minister for the University of Delaware and started a new Episcopal Church in Glasgow, Del., before becoming the rector of All Saints in

River Ridge, La., from 2009 until January of this year.

Father Jay and his wife, Lisa, who is an amazing artist, have been married for 27 years. They have two children, Renee and Cole, both in college, and two dachshunds, Dee and JJ.

Father Jay answered some questions from the congregation:

What do you most want the community to know about you and about Holy Trinity?

In Galatians, Paul highlights the Christian virtues of love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control. Historically, the Church has spent time talking about love, peace, patience, and self-control. I think there’s a huge opportunity to experience joy through and from the Church. We are an inclusive congregation. One of Holy Trinity’s outward expressions of joy is that all are welcome!

You have a connection to the Delaware Valley so does it feel a little bit like you are “home” again?

“It does! It feels very familiar. We have family in Delaware and Philadelphia

and we’ve already visited, so it is great to be close by. As a huge Philadelphia sports fan, I am thrilled to be back in the fold. It’s the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and Sixers, all the way!”

It’s only been a little over a month since you and your wife Lisa moved here after 16 years in New Orleans. How has it been settling in?

We already feel at home. Everyone has been so welcoming. We love Ocean City and the surrounding area.

You like to listen to classical music when you work, and to the Dave Matthews band when you aren’t working. You also are a guitarist. How important is music in your daily life and ministry?

It is very important. I always have something playing. Music also helps me to refocus through the creative, and reengage back into the work I love with a joyful heart.

What is Holy Trinity’s schedule of services?

Services are on Saturday at 5 p.m. (5:30 p.m. in the summer), Sunday at 8 a.m., and choral Eucharist with church school at 10:00 a.m. Please join us.

Holy Trinity is known for hosting and participating in community events and activities. What is on the schedule?

– Saturday, May 24 annual hoagie sale
