Female teacher pleads guilty to sexual relationship with student

Plea includes five years in prison and forfeit of teaching license

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – A 36-year-old female teacher pleaded guilty on Oct. 28 to charges related to her sexual relationship with a male juvenile student. The plea includes a sentence of 5 years in prison.

On Oct. 30, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland announce Laura Caron, 36, of Cape May Court House, pleaded guilty in Cape May County Superior Court. Caron is a former Middle Township teacher.

Caron was initially charged Jan. 15, 2025, and then indicted the following June 17, as a result of an investigation conducted by detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. The investigation was initiated after it was reported Caron had a sexual relationship with a male juvenile victim.

On Oct. 28, Caron pleaded guilty to the charge of second degree endangering the welfare of a child with sexual conduct.

Sutherland said the guilty plea by Caron includes a 5-year sentence in New Jersey state prison along with forfeiting her teaching license and all future public employment.

Before Caron serves her state prison sentence, she will be evaluated at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center at Avenel for classification to determine whether she is deemed repetitive and/or compulsive, which could impact her sentence, according to Sutherland.

After Caron’s classification, and after serving her state prison term, she will be required to

register on the Megan’s Law Offender Registry and subject to parole dupervision for the rest of her life. Providing the Avenel evaluation is completed, Caron is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 8, 2027 by the Honorable Jeffrey Waldman, J.S.C.

Sutherland thanked all the detectives involved in bringing this investigation to a close.
