Our beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, Dotti “Mom Mom” Greto, passed away peacefully at 92 years old, at Rockridge Retirement Community in Northampton, MA with her devoted son, Andrew, by her side.
Dotti is pre-deceased by her father, David Zopher Howell Marvel, her mother, Dorothy (Hargrave) Marvel, and her loving husband, Victor “Bob” Greto.
Dotti was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1934. Her dad was in the US Navy, and then was the Director of Retail Display at Strawbridge & Clothier Department Store in downtown Philly. He was also an avid painter. Dotti’s mother was also an artist and graduated from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. Dotti inherited this artistic gene and was a truly exceptional quilter and crafter for most of her life. She was way too modest about it too. Her talent was immense!
Dotti was the oldest of three. Dotti’s brother is David Marvel (wife, Patricia Marvel) of Aldan, PA, and her sister Debbie Marvel Fair (husband, George Fair) of Annville, PA. She also has many beloved nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
Dotti was married for 61 years to our beloved father and grandfather, Victor Greto (deceased in 2021) and she had two children, Ginger Bartlett of Monroe, CT, and Andrew Greto (wife, Moira Greto) of Florence, MA.
Dotti also had five precious grandchildren she adored — David Bartlett, Joseph Bartlett, Adam Bartlett, Lucy Dalton Greto (husband, Will Lombardi), and Thomas Vittorio Greto.
Dotti had a truly blessed life of good health and spent most of her years with Vic in Ocean City, NJ, and Sanibel Island, FL. In Ocean City, she was part of the Wind Rose Quilt Guild, and the South Shore Stichers in which she spent many years creating beautiful quilts, knitted hundreds of hats for babies for local hospitals, made many dolls and ornaments to raise money for charity, and won countless awards for her incredible talent. She was adored by her quilting buddies and this was a very important part of her life. We are grateful to that wonderful group of women.
Dotti was raised in the Quaker tradition, so we will leave you with a Quaker prayer, attributed to William Penn:
“We give them back to you, dear Lord, who gave them to us. Yet as you did not lose them in giving, so we have not lost them by their return. For what is yours is ours always, if we are yours. And life is eternal and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon, and a horizon is nothing more than the limit of our sight.”
There will be a private celebration of life for Dotti in Ocean City, NJ at a later date.
