Charles H. Kulp

Charles H. Kulp of Ocean City and Naples Florida, beloved husband of Helen, departed this life on April 22, 2021.

Charlie was born in Vineland, NJ, graduated Vineland High School, and attended Rutgers College. While a young man, he acquired his pilot’s license and spent many joyful hours flying his airplane.  He joined the service and became part of the 82nd Airborne Division, becoming a sergeant during the Korean War.

After serving in the Army, Charlie became a licensed realtor and established Kulp Builders and Developers.  During that time, he designed and built many residential and commercial properties such as the LaSalle Plaza in Vineland.  Most notably, he was the original builder of the Wawa stores throughout South Jersey.  During that time, Charles was president of the local Board of Realtors, Chamber of Commerce president, Rotary Club member, and a board member of the Red Cross.

He enjoyed a summer home in Ocean City with his family until deciding to build a permanent, bayside residence there.  While in Ocean City, he owned and operated the bayfront restaurant, Dock 9. In addition, he continued to develop residential properties.

In his spare time, he enjoyed a Sunday sailing group at the OCYC, golf, world travel, and tennis.  He loved to dance and dine.  After several years, Charlie and Helen moved to Naples, Fl.  While continuing to enjoy these activities there, he developed the Retreat Condominiums in Collier County and built additional residential properties.

After spending more than 20 years in Florida, he returned to Ocean City and courageously battled many health issues. Charles is survived by his wife Helen, his daughters, Sheila Kulp and Linda Leonard, and son-in-law, Keith, his grandchildren, Dana DeVito, Ryan Leonard and his wife Samantha, Matthew Leonard and his wife Suzie, also, two great grandchildren, Jackson and Reid Leonard.  A private, family service is planned for Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
