Catherine Margaret Casebeer, 96

Catherine Margaret Casebeer, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Galloway Township, NJ on Friday, March 18, 2022.

She was born October 26, 1925 in Camden NJ to Francis (Frank) Hart and Frances Romaine Hart. As a child during the Depression she overcame adversity by excelling at school. During her teen years, she lived with her maternal grandparents, to whom she was very close. She graduated high school at age 16 and took a job as a bookkeeper to help support her family.

In 1948, Catherine married Walter E. Casebeer, Jr., and several years later, the young couple moved to Audubon, NJ, where they happily raised four daughters. They lived in the same house on Edgewood Avenue for most of their sixty-year marriage, while also enjoying summers at their lakeside log cabin home in Medford Lakes, NJ during the 1960s.

Catherine was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was also a dedicated volunteer at Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury, NJ for forty years. After her husband passed away in 2008, she moved to Marmora, NJ, and volunteered at Shore Memorial Hospital for three more years.

Hospital volunteer work was her passion, as was sewing, quilting, gardening, and travel. Catherine and Walter took trips around the United States and the world, visiting Europe, China, Africa, Egypt, Easter Island, Mexico, South America, Canada, and Australia.

Survivors include daughters Margaret (Maggie) FitzRoy and husband, Jim; Joan Casebeer and husband Robert Rodriguez; and Janet Yunghans and husband Karl; grandchildren: Jake FitzRoy, Trevor FitzRoy, Caylie FitzRoy, Kasey Yunghans, Konnor Yunghans; and great-grandson Theodore FitzRoy.

Catherine was predeceased by husband, Walter, daughter Wendy, and brother Donald Hart.

Her memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26 at Godfrey Funeral Home at 8th and Central Ave. in Ocean City, NJ.
