OCEAN CITY – Pre-election reports show both mayoral candidates have put money into their own campaigns and raised more contributions.
In the 11-day pre-election report filed April 29, Councilman Keith Hartzell, who is challenging incumbent Jay Gillian in the May 10 election, listed a $5,000 loan he gave to his campaign .
He also listed two new contributions, $500 from Brian Hartley of Playland’s Castaway Cove on the boardwalk and $500 from Padula Masonry of Simpson Avenue, Ocean City. The Padula contribution was part of an aggregate $1,000 donation.
Hartzell also listed $1,200 more in donations of $300 or less. Those do not have to be categorized.
As of the reporting date, he had raised $34,662.
Gillian listed a $10,000 contribution from himself in what has been a mainly self-funded campaign, and a $5,000 donation from Daniel and Joan Hilferty of Ardmore, Pa. (They are listed as retired.)
Gillian also reported just more than $1,200 in donations under $300, along with a $1,000 donation from Marilyn Salmon of Bridgeton, $1,000 from David and Kim Davidson of Ocean View (retired), and $500 from Holly and Michael Monihan of Monihan Realty of Ocean City.
New receipts in the 11-day pre-election report were $18,756 for a total to date of $82,796. In his early filing, Gillian reported contributing $56,000 to his own campaign.
Hartzell reported spending $24,692 so far on his campaign.
His largest expense of $10,061 went to JASM Consulting of Ocean City. Other expenses included $4,250 to Comcast Cable of Mays Landing, $1,104 to the Ocean City Sentinel, $1,000 to Longport Media of Linwood, $887 to Advantage Signs of Seaville, $476 to WIGB Radio of Ocean City, and $280 to Townsquare Media South Jersey of Northfield.
Gillian reported new spending of $24,058 for a total of $63,115. His largest expenditure also was to Comcast, for $8,500, and the next largest to Longport Media for $4,660. Other expenditures were $3,034 to Townsquare Media, $3,313 to Sample Media (Ocean City Sentinel), $3,308 to Jamestown Associations of Philadelphia and $1,190 to JustRight TV Productions of Mays Landing.
City Council
In the six-way race for the three at-large seats on Ocean City Council, John A. “Tony P” Polcini, reported contributions of $3,760, most of which were in donations of less than $300. Patrick O’Hara of Uncle Bill’s Pancake House of Ocean City donated $1,000 and James Sullivan of Sullivan’s Scrap Metal of Philadelphia donated $500.
Pete Madden reported $6,744 in new donations for a total of $31,000 to date, including $3,744 in amounts of $300 or less.
He also listed $2,500 from Daniel and Michele Kilcoyne of Mini Melts of America of Philadelphia, and $500 from Michele Redrow of GCI Racing of Ocean City.
For expenses, he listed $7,397 to The Printing Company of Somers Point for advertising and marketing, $2,245 to the Ocean City Sentinel and $500 for VFW Post 6650.
No new donations were reported by Donna Moore, Michael DeVlieger, Tom Rotondi or Karen Bergman.
Bergman and Polcini are included in the advertising and marketing with Madden because the three of them are running as a ticket.
