OCEAN CITY – The gallery at the Ocean City Arts Center will be full of motion in July with contemporary whirligigs and kinetic sculpture by David Winigrad and paintings by Michael Cagno.
The exciting show runs July 2-29. A “Meet the Artists” reception will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 12.
The Arts Center is on the second floor of the Ocean City Community Center, 1735 Simpson Ave.
Winigrad’s kinetic sculptures or whirligigs, as most people know them, are sculptures in which movement is a basic element whether it be motor or wind-driven. Some may even seem to defy gravity. Winigrad is a mixed-media artist based in the Philadelphia suburbs. He holds a BFA from Carnegie-Mellon University. After pursuing a long career as a creative Director in the advertising and commercial art world, He transitioned from a long career as a creative director in the advertising and art work, working in 2D, to the 3D medium beginning in 2013 with challenge of reinterpreting the traditional whirligig folk art form through a contemporary lens. He has won numerous awards.
With a stunningly rich palette, Cagno’s latest works weave narrative of timeless, universal emotions with strong contemporary resonance. Infused with richness and sensuality, his modern impressionistic style is also bold, raw and unguarded. He defines objects outside the traditional colors that bind perceptions to a ration state of mind. However, what separates Cagno is how he brings explosion of color to the world, influenced by his emotions and Mother Nature.
Cagno is executive director of The Noyes Museum of Art of Stockton University and a doctoral candidate in organization leadership at Stockton.
