Brambley Golf League opens season

OCEAN CITY – The Brambley Golf League teed off its 33rd season with perfect weather, blue skies and warm temperatures last week.

Rich Hawthorne set the pace early, clinching the Overall Low Gross title for the week with an impressive opening round of 42. However, it was Merry Wagner who stole the spotlight, shooting her career-best round of 49 to secure the Flight B Low Gross title. Wagner’s round was a remarkable 7 strokes under her handicap, marking a significant achievement for her. Congratulations, Merry. In the Ladies division, JoAnn Bonanni and Dale Praetorius shared the Low Gross title for the week, while Joe Tripoli captured the Senior Division Low Gross title.

John McVerry and Steve Izzi shared the honors for Low Net in Flight A, both delivering solid performances on the course. Chris Devaney secured the Flight B Low Net award for his impressive round. Liz Dykie claimed the Ladies Low Net title with an outstanding net score of 31, a remarkable six strokes under her handicap. Her playing partner, Helene Weathers, secured second place honors with a net score of 35. Several golfers managed to secure birdies this week, including JoAnn Bonanni, Chris Devaney, Mark Franks, Rich Hawthorne, Steve Izzi, JoAnna Johns, Joe Karwowski, and Dale Praetorius. Among the golfers shooting in the 40s this week were Rich Hawthorne, John McVerry, Mark Franks, Joe Karwowski, and Carmine Bonanni.

The Brambley Golf League plays at 8 a.m. every Monday at the Ocean City Municipal Golf Course. New players are always welcome to join the league. Membership Chairperson Jeanne Robinson will be available at the scorer’s table every Monday morning to assist with sign-ups. The league extends a warm welcome to new players Carmine Bonanni and Mike Bravoco. With such an exciting start to the season, anticipation is high for what promises to be another thrilling year of golf at Brambley Golf League.
