Former Ocean City Police Department sergeant gets 5-year prison term for sex with juvenile

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland said a former Ocean City Police Department sergeant was sentenced to five years in prison.

On Friday, Sutherland announced the sentencing in Cape May County Superior Court of Tyrone Rolls, a 52-year old resident of Marmora and former OCPD sergeant.

Rolls was initially charged on April 7, 2021, and then indicted on Nov. 16, 2021, as result of an investigation conducted by detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after it was reported Rolls had a sexual relationship with a female juvenile victim.

On March 2, 2023, Rolls plead guilty to the second-degree charge of endangering the welfare of a child by sexual conduct. 

On July 21, Rolls was sentenced by the Honorable Bernard E. DeLury, P.J.Cr. to five years in New Jersey State Prison, Megan’s Law Registry, parole supervision for life, forfeiture of public employment and no contact with the now adult victim and her family.

Sutherland thanked all the detectives involved in the investigation and Senior Assistant Prosecutor Bryna Batten who prosecuted this case.
