House fire displaces families in Ocean City

OCEAN CITY — The Ocean City Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 12:09 p.m. Jan. 27 at 932 Simpson Avenue.

Upon arrival, firefighters found flames and smoke coming from the multifamily home. According to city spokesman Doug Bergen, firefighters were able to knock down and control the fire quickly.

All residents were safely evacuated and there were no reported injuries to any fire personnel.

Fire companies from Marmora and Margate and Upper Township Rescue provided mutual assistance. The structure suffered extensive damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross and the Ocean City Office of Emergency Management secured shelter for the displaced families.
