Child dies after being hit by a car in Ocean City Saturday

OCEAN CITY – A 3 1/2-year-old girl died of her injuries after being struck by a motor vehicle in the vicinity of West Inlet Road and West Atlantic Boulevard at approximately 10:56 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, Ocean City Public Information Officer Doug Bergen announced Saturday afternoon.

The incident is under investigation by the Ocean City Police Department and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office. City officials referred other inquiries into the incident and investigation to the Prosecutor’s Office, Bergen wrote.

“An accident took the life of a young Ocean City girl this morning,” Mayor Jay Gillian wrote in his letter to the community Saturday. “My heart goes out to the families and all who were affected by this tragedy. … Please join me in extending thoughts and prayers.”

The Prosecutor’s Office said the investigation was continuing and did not provide any additional information. No update was available before the Sentinel went to press Tuesday.
