Police investigating a homicide in Somers Point

MAYS LANDING – The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Somers Point Police Department are investigating a homicide in Somers Point.

They are conducting a “cooperative investigation” into the homicide of Somers Point resident 67-year-old Somers Hickman, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced Wednesday, April 1.

In a press release, a spokesperson for the prosecutor said Somers Point Police were called to a residence on Chapman Avenue in Somers Point at 9:55 p.m. Monday, March. 30. They were asked by neighbors to do a welfare check.

“Upon arrival, officers located 67-year-old Somers Hickman deceased in the home. Somers Point Police contacted the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and a cooperative investigation ensued,” the release said.

“On March 31, 2020, an autopsy of Hickman was conducted and the pending cause of death is determined to be blunt force trauma and the pending manner of death is homicide,” the prosecutor’s office reported.
