Somers Point man worked at Woodbine Elementary School
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Shaun M. Stebbins, 44, of Somers Point, was arrested this week following a months-long investigation into allegations of sexual assault and child sexual abuse material, according to Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland.
In April of 2026, the Prosecutor’s Office said it was notified by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Somers Point Police Department that they were investigating a sexual assault investigation involving Stebbins, which allegedly revealed crimes also occurring in Cape May County, the prosecutor stated.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation into Stebbins, working together with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and Somers Point Police
Department. The search of Stebbins’s devices allegedly revealed numerous images and videos of students from the Woodbine Elementary School in Cape May County.
Stebbins was employed at Woodbine Elementary School as a teacher’s aide from February of 2022 to the date of his arrest in Atlantic County on March 29, 2026.
As a result of the investigation, on Oct. 30, Stebbins was charged 29 counts of manufacturing child pornography, a crime of the first degree; five counts of aggravated sexual assault, a crime of the first degree; 13 counts of sexual assault by sexual contact, a crime of the second degree; and 14 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a crime of the second degree.
Stebbins remains in the Atlantic County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.
Under New Jersey law, a person convicted of a first-degree crime may face a term of 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison. A person convicted of a second-degree crime typically carries a sentencing range of 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
“Children are among our most vulnerable population and we have a responsibility to protect their safety and well-being,” Sutherland said. “Anyone who harms a child will be held accountable through our justice system.”
This investigation remains ongoing, and Prosecutor Sutherland is asking anyone with information related to this case to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special
