OCEAN VIEW — The Historical Preservation of Upper Township has scheduled a free presentation on the Battle of Turtle Gut at 6 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Upper Township Senior and Wellness Center, 1369 Stagecoach Road.
John Ryan, chief operating officer of Historic Cold Spring Village, will present the story of the only battle event in Cape May County during the Revolutionary War.

9/11 concert Sept. 13
OCEAN CITY – The Masterworks Choir and St. Peter’s United Methodist Church Choir will present a concert in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of 9/11 at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the church.
The concert is “The Requiem” by Gabriel Faure with John Bate, conductor; Scott Breiner, organist; Missy Schenck, soprano; Robert Snodgrass, baritone. It will include “Amazing Grace,” arranged by Scott Breiner, and “Precious Peace in the Valley,” arranged by Brenda E. Austin, played by St. Peter’s Handbell Choir, directed by Kathy Heller.

‘Pours for Oars’
for rowing club
OCEAN VIEW — Under the Bridge Rowing Club will host “Pours for Oars,” a community fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Meyers Lighthouse Brewing Company & Mini Golf, 2576 Route 9, Ocean View.
The afternoon will feature live music by classic rock band Ultraviolet, along with food, a basket auction and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $35 per person and include pizza, Caesar salad, snacks and dessert. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 13.
Proceeds from Pours for Oars will support the programs and activities of Under the Bridge Rowing Club, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting rowing and providing opportunities for athletes in the South Jersey community.
Based in the Ocean City/Upper Township area, Under the Bridge Rowing Club has helped introduce and sustain rowing opportunities for area athletes while supporting the continued growth of the sport in Cape May County.

Family-to-Family
Education Program
NAMI Atlantic Cape May is now accepting registrations for its nationally recognized Family-to-Family education program, a free course designed for family members, partners, and friends of adults living with mental health conditions.
The eight-week program will be held every Tuesday evening Sept. 8 through Oct. 27 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. via Zoom, making it convenient for participants throughout Atlantic and Cape May Counties to attend from home.
Family-to-Family is taught by trained volunteers who have firsthand experience supporting a loved one with a mental health condition. Participants will gain practical knowledge about mental health conditions and treatment options, develop effective communication and problem-solving skills, learn strategies for self-care, and connect with others who understand the challenges of supporting a loved one.
The program is offered free of charge as part of NAMI’s mission to provide education, support, and hope to families affected by mental illness.

SOMERS POINT — The Somers Point Good Old Days Festival Committee has announced the return of the Run to Remember 5K, a community event dedicated to honoring the courageous men and women who serve as first responders and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
This year’s race carries added significance as our nation marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed America and highlighted the extraordinary courage of first responders.

The September program will feature a talk on fraud awareness presented by Sturdy Savings Bank. Presenters will be Joseph Badecki, bank security officer, and Michael Latini, bank chief risk officer.
New families are always welcome. The program is specifically designed for grandparents or relatives who have full-time responsibility for raising their grandchildren or other relatives.
Child care will be provided and a light supper will be served at 5 p.m., with the program following at 5:30 p.m.

OCEAN CITY — St. John Lutheran Church, Journey Hospice, and The Shores — a United Methodist Communities (UMC) community — are partnering to offer a monthly Grief Support Group for adults who are navigating the difficult journey of loss.
The group provides a safe, welcoming and confidential space where individuals can come together to share their experiences, listen, and support one another. Whether someone has recently experienced a loss or is still processing grief from years past, all are welcome.
Meetings will be held in person on the second Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to noon at St. John Lutheran Church, 1001 Central Ave.
“Grief is a deeply personal experience, but it doesn’t have to be experienced alone,” group coordinators Beth Gebhart and Michele Musto said. “This group is about honoring each person’s journey and finding hope in shared understanding.”

Crisis Intervention
Families who are experiencing serious difficulties in managing the behavior of children 10 to 17 years old for whom they are responsible can seek assistance through the Atlantic County Juvenile/Family Crisis Intervention Unit (FCIU).
FCIU is a legally mandated program that is available 24 hours a day to intercede in family conflicts and help strengthen the family unit. Its services include short-term crisis stabilization, family assessment, case management, treatment planning and referrals to appropriate community-based services.
FCIU is available to meet in-person by appointment with youth and their families from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 101 Shore Road in Northfield. Appointments can also be conducted by phone or as a virtual meeting to help de-escalate and resolve family conflicts.

Online screening for depression and postpartum depression is available at mhaac.info/screening.
The confidential screening involves 10 questions related to topics such as sleep habits, appetite, concentration and level of energy. Resources and recommendations are offered at the end of the survey.
