Raiders, Mustangs medal at state track meet

COLUMBUS — The Ocean City High School girls and boys track teams brought home silver medals from the state Group III track meet Friday and Saturday and the Mainland Regional High School girls added a bronze of their own.

Teammates on both teams also had solid performances.

The Red Raider girls and boys both finished second in the 4×800 relays at the meet at Northern Burlington County Regional High School and the Mustang girls finished third in the 4×100 relay.

The Ocean City girls 4×800 ran a time of 9:26.82, just over two seconds behind first-place Cranford. Running on the relay were junior Carly Godfrey, sophomore Riley Tolson, junior Lillian Flora and Peighton Clemens.

The boys 4×800 team featured senior Erik Preisner, sophomore Nevin Millstein and juniors Keenan Neuman and Nate Aschmann. They finished in a time of 8:00.91, less than two seconds behind Deptford’s relay, which won in 7:59.47.

Mainland’s 4×100 included Gianna Shea taking the first leg, then Veronika Andreev and Oriellah Caplan and anchored by Camryn DeMorat. They ran the race in 48.60 seconds, behind first place Winslow Township (47.12 seconds) and second place Ramapo (47.72 seconds)

Shea earned another bronze by clearing 11’ in the pole vault. NV-Old Tappan’s Caroline Ognibene won at 11’6”. Mustang teammate Heather Milstead, a junior, was fifth at 10’.

Ocean City’s Garrett Sampson, a senior, earned bronze in the javelin finals with his throw of 165’10”. Cumberland’s Richard Pierce won at 184’3”.

Godfrey was second in the 800 meters at the state meet. She finished in 2:11.81. Cranford senior Courtney Toy won in 2:09.36. Mainland senior Emma Preissman was 11th in 2:15.88.

Tolson was second in the 3200 meters with her time of 10:39.70. West Windsor-Plainsboro North senior Allison Lee won in 10:14.34.

Mainland junior Allie Thomas was fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5’2”. Wayne Hills freshman Kaja Lenczyk won at 5’4”. Ocean City senior Callie Duff tied for eighth at 5’. DeMorat was fifth.

DeMorat was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.98 seconds. Jackson won in 13.43 seconds. Andreev was 12th (15.41).

Andreev was seventh in the 100 meters. Her time was 12.91 seconds. Winslow Township senior Olivia Okaro won in 12.26 seconds. In the preliminaries, Andreev ran 12.42.

Ocean City junior Ella Miller finished 10th in the 200 meters. Her time was 25.65 seconds. The winning time, posted by Winslow’s Jasmine Jackson, was 24.45 seconds.

In the 1600 meters, Preissman finished seventh in 5:15.21 and Ocean City’s Flora was ninth in 5:15.81. Montville’s Gabriella Pelow won in 5:05.98.

Andreev also was seventh in the triple jump with her distance of 36’8.75”. Winslow’s Ma’Syiah Brawner won at 40’3.5”.

Shea was 11th in the long jump, leaping 16’9”. West Side’s Jordan Bowers-Strickland won by going 18’10.25”.

Mainland sophomore Alaya Steinberg was 12th in the 400 meter hurdles. Her time was 1:07.28. Winslow sophomore Jasmine Jackson won in 1:00.98.

Ocean City’s 4×400 team was seventh in 4:06.91. Winslow won in 3:53.57.

Raider, Mustang boys

Ocean City senior Jude Govern was sixth in the 100 meters, finishing in 11.09 seconds. Winslow senior Quayd Hendryx won in 10.78 seconds. 

Govern missed the finals of the 200 meters, finishing ninth in 22.31 seconds in the prelims. The sixth-place qualifier finished in 22.18 seconds.

Aschmann and Millstein were eighth and ninth in the 3200 meters. Aschmann’s time was 9:39.94 and Millstein finished in 9:40.31. Morris Hills senior Nicholas Falcone won in 9:13.87.

Aschmann and Neuman were 10th (4:30.72) and 12th (4:33.80), respectively, in the 1600 meters. Chatham’s Marcus Valenzuela won in 4:13.73.

Mustang senior Jackson Larimer was fifth in the pole vault, clearing 13’. Deptford’s Mason Henry, a senior, won by clearing 14’6”.

Mainland Regional junior Dallas Rowell was seventh in the long jump, leaping 21’11.25”. Winslow junior Andrew Kratee won at 24’1.25”.
