Joseph W. Vasturia, 83

Vasturia, Joseph, age 83, of Drexel Hill, PA and Ocean City, NJ passed away on May 5, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Looby); devoted father of Joe, John (Kathy), Paul, Lisa Hadden (Greg) and Susan Symnoski (Dave); also survived by his six loving grandchildren Pat, Steve, Mike, Chris, Matt, and Danny; brother of Pasquale (Anna), Marie Quinn (the late Jack), Madeleine Mazza, and Delores Silcott.

Joe was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Dorothy Roman Catholic Church for over 50 years.  He was a graduate of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Grade School, St. Thomas More High School, Villanova University, and Drexel University.  Joe was a Civil Engineer, serving as Director of Public Works for Upper Darby Township for over 40 years, and, more recently, as Chief Executive Office of the Delaware County Solid Waste Authority. He was a conscientious and earnest golfer, appreciating that he could shoot closer to his age with each passing year. He also enjoyed working on his Bridge playing skills and home repairs at the shore. Joe’s greatest passion, however, was spending quality time attending his grandsons’ various activities.  The sheer pleasure of supporting them in things that matter in their lives created a unique bond that is priceless and that only comes with being a dedicated, proud, and respected man from whom we all learned.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Joe’s life at a viewing on Thursday, May13, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at the Ruffenach Funeral Home, 4900 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Viewing on Friday, May 14th, from 9:00-10:15 AM, at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Internment at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield PA will follow the Mass.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory to St. Dorothy School would be appreciated.
