Fundraiser March 1 for Ocean City firefighter who is battling cancer

SOMERS POINT — Friends, family members and other loved ones have organized a fundraiser to benefit Somers Point resident Kenny Pollock in his battle with cancer.

The 18-year Ocean City firefighter was diagnosed a year ago with two rare forms of cancer — lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma and primary CNS lymphoma — and is undergoing treatment at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia.

According to a Facebook page announcing the fundraiser, Pollock, 47, is receiving support from the New Jersey Firefighters PFANJ and the Ocean City Firefighters Association IAFF Local 4032, which have been raising funds to help with the “overwhelming medical expenses” through T-shirt and sticker sales.

The Courage for Kenny Beef & Beer Fundraiser is scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. March 1 at Somers Point Volunteer Fire Company #2, 20 W. New Jersey Ave. Tickets are $35. They can be purchased and monetary donations made via Venmo @courageforkenny or with cash.

Sister Kristen Conover said they are seeking items for raffle baskets and hoping a lot of people show up and support Pollock, who has a young daughter.

Those wishing to contribute should contact Conover at (609) 425-6362 or email courageforkenny@gmail.com. Donations can be picked up or mailed to 18 S. Holly Hills Drive, Somers Point, NJ 08244.
