Simonsen, McClellan re-elected to Assembly; Barr, Bulakowski re-elected to Cape May County Commission

Voters returned First District Assemblymen Antwan McClellan and Erik Simonsen to office in the Nov. 4 election.

They fended off a challenge from Democrats Carolyn Rush and Carol Sabo, the mayor of West Cape May.

Unofficial results showed Simonsen, of Lower Township, earning 40,870 votes and McClellan, of Ocean City, 40,587.

Rush received 32,725 votes and Sabo 32,372.

Cape May County provided the largest margin of victory for Simonsen and McClellan with nearly 10,000 more for the Republicans.

In the county, Simonsen received 25,039 votes and McClellan 24,797.  Sabo received 15,642 and Rush 15,406.

The county also voted heavily for Republican Jack Ciattarelli for governor, 25,077 to 17,492 for Democrat Mikie Sherrill. Statewide, Sherrill crushed Ciattarelli by more than a 400,000 vote margin to be New Jersey’s governor-elect.

In the Cape May County Board of Commissioners elections, incumbents Andrew Bulakowski and Bobby Barr easily defeated their lone opponent, Eric Morey. Barr led the field with 26,268 votes, followed by Bulakowski with 24,600 and Morey with 16,911.

County Clerk Rita Rothberg won re-election unopposed, collecting 28,856 votes, or 99.29 percent. There were 205 write-ins.
