Red Raider tennis has unusual week with same oppo

OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City High School girls tennis team is 4-4 so far this season after an interesting week bracketed by a win and a loss against the same team.

The Red Raider girls started the season with a pair of close 3-2 losses to Mainland Regional and Vineland, then reeled off three straight wins. They beat Absegami 5-0, Cedar Creek 3-2 and on Monday last week, knocked off Middle Township 4-1.

On Friday, after three days off, the girls played Middle Township again but fell 3-2.

On Monday, the Red Raiders lost again to Mainland by an identical 3-2 score, with first singles Cecelia Mirsky beating Mustang Mackenzie Campbell 6-2, 6-1 and second singles Anna Wisnefski defeating Jessica Wise in three sets, 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-4).

Mainland’s third singles Riya Dabas topped Raider Sydney Halliday 7-5, 6-4 in another close match. Both Mustang doubles teams also won – Hana Saloum and Lily Turner at first doubles 6-1, 6-4 over Annabelle Terruso and Olivia Davis, and at second doubles, Dilana Erenier and Daisy Turner over Caitlin Grimley and Peyton Laricks 6-2, 6-3.

Against Middle Township the first time, only Wisnefski fell, 6-1, 6-4 to Ella Leahy, while Mirsky, Halliday, and both doubles teams won, albeit going three sets to do so.

The second time they met the Middle Panthers, only Halliday and the second doubles team won. Grimley and Davis had to go three sets for the victory, 6-0, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9). First doubles Terruso and Noelle McCanney lost in three sets, 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 0-1 (7-10).
