Ocean City, Mainland boys medal at CAL track and field championships

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP – Mustang senior Josiah Williams won two events and finished second in a third at the Cape-Atlantic League Track and Field Championships Saturday, May 10, at Buena Regional High School.

Williams won the long jump with a leap of 22’10” and the triple jump with a distance of 45’11.5”.

He took second place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.71 seconds – 1/100th of a second out of first place. Egg Harbor Township’s Ari Bell won in 14.70 seconds.

Ocean City’s Ryan Davis (15.45) was sixth in the hurdles and Mainland’s Derrick Wang (15.94) was 10th. 

Ocean City’s JP Forster was fourth in the long jump at 21’6.5” and fifth in the triple jump at 40’2.25”. Raider John Stamm was 10th in the triple jump at 19’7.25”.

Red Raider sophomore Nate Aschmann won the 1600 meters in 4:33.22, overtaking Cedar Creek’s Sean Martino (4:33.43) down the final stretch.

Mainland freshman Jack Preissman was fourth in 4:40.19 and Ocean City freshman Nevin Millstein was seventh in 4:44. Raider sophomore Michael Romano was 10th in 4:48.29.

Raider senior Ethan Buck won the 3200 meters in 10:05.87, almost 13 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Muhammad Khan of Atlantic City. Ocean City senior Zach Hutchinson was fourth in 10:27.58. Mustang Brody Miller, a junior, was ninth in 10:54.01.

Mustang Matt Muits, a junior, won the javelin, throwing 165’4” and Ocean City junior Gavin Taylor second at 162’7”. Ocean City juniors Dale Curtis (137’6”) and Garrett Sampson (136’8”) were fifth and sixth and Mustang junior Brady Kallen was seventh at 129’5”.

Raider senior Grady Hanson won the shot put with his throw of 49’0.5”.  Teammate Luke Smith, a senior, was fifth at 45’4”, and fellow senior Clifford Dirkes was eighth at 41’8.5”.

Ocean City’s Erik Preisner was second in the 800 meters in 2.04.42. The junior was behind Pleasantville senior Melvin Lewis who won in 2:0014. 

The Raiders 4×100 team also finished second in 43.80 seconds, behind St. Augustine Prep that finished in 43.35 seconds.

Running for the Raiders were Connor Berich, JP Forster, Dale Curtis and Jude Govern.

Ocean City’s 4×400 team of Govern, Troy Amstutz, Louis Gracia and Curtis, was fourth 3:36.06. Pleasantville’s team won in 3:24.50.

The Raiders’ 4×800 team was seventh in 9:39.67. That included Hayden Tarves, Angelo Reciniello, Eric Buck and Nolan Palombo.

Ocean City’s Jude Govern placed third in the 100 meters in 11.03 seconds. St. Augustine Prep’s Julian Onesti won the event in 10.61 seconds. 

Onesti won the 200 meters as well, finishing in 21.71 seconds. Mainland’s Chris Keena was fifth in 22.52 seconds.

Prep’s Marc Maccario won the 400 meters in 50.07 seconds. Mustang Finegan Fiore was sixth in 52.74 seconds with teammate Andrew Brummett eighth in 54.29 seconds.

Davis was seventh in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.03.

Mainland senior Colin Kummings finished third in the high jump, clearing 6’. Atlantic City’s Jaylen Day won with a height of 6’2”. Mustang sophomore Maddun Mulloy was 11th at 5’4”.

Mustang junior Jackson Larimer cleared 11’ to finish sixth in the pole vault and teammate Kieran Kummings, a freshman, was 10th at 10’. Cedar Creek’s Evan Hendrickson won at 12’6”.

Raider seniors Clifford Dirkes (143’) and Luke Smith (141’4”) were third and fourth in the discus. Millville’s Jamal Wallace won at 176’3”. Ocean City senior Anthony Gasparovic was ninth at 122’1”.

The South Jersey Group III meet is this Friday and Saturday at Delsea Regional High School.
