Two more deaths in Cape May County
An 18-year-old Mullica woman was among nine people who died in Atlantic County from complications due to COVID-19, the Atlantic County Division of Public Health reported Tuesday, May 12. The division reported another 10 deaths at long-term care facilities on Wednesday.
In Cape May County, two residents of a long-term care facility in Lower Township died – a 73-year-old woman and an 80-year-old man – and there were nine new reports of positive coronavirus cases. The death toll from the virus is 36 in the county – 27 of them in long-term care facilities.
There were three new cases in Lower and Middle townships and one each in Ocean City, Dennis township and West Cape May reported Tuesday.
In Atlantic County, the other eight fatalities reported Tuesday were residents on long-term nursing care facilities and all nine had pre-existing conditions that put them at high risk, the division said.
Seven of the fatalities were from Absecon, including three women, two age 80, one 81 and one 90, and three men, two of them 80 years old and one 88. The other fatality was a 77-year-old man from Linwood.
On Wednesday, the county confirmed the deaths of 10 more residents of long-term care facilities – four Galloway residents, a 71-year old man and three women ages 81, 88 and 95; a 90-year-old Northfield woman; two 92-year-old Linwood women; an 87-year-old Egg Harbor Township man; and two Hammonton men, ages 84 and 90. To date, there have now been 96 fatalities related to COVID-19.
The 38 new positives were identified among 21 men, ages 16 to 80 and 17 women, ages 28 to 91.
Seven new cases were confirmed in Atlantic City, six in Galloway and Pleasantville, and four in both Egg Harbor Township and Hammonton. Northfield had three new positives while Egg Harbor City and Hamilton Township each had two. One new case was found in Absecon, Buena Borough, Somers Point and Ventnor.
On Tuesday there were 34 new positive test results among 19 women from 24 to 98 years old and 15 males, from 9 to 87 years old.
Ten cases were in Atlantic City, eight in Galloway, five in Egg Harbor Township and three in Northfield. Hamilton Township, Hammonton and Ventnor each had two new cases while Pleasantville and Somers Point each had one.
To date, 1,564 residents have tested positive in Atlantic County and 351 have been cleared as recovered.
Atlantic County will continue its drive-thru testing 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 14, by appointment, for symptomatic county residents with a doctor’s prescription, proof of residency and appointment confirmation. Appointments can be made online at www.aclink.org. All testing is conducted behind the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing.
Those who are unable to keep their appointments are asked to cancel so that others will have an opportunity to be tested.
