Walter W. Hutcheson III

Walter Wilson Hutcheson III passed away at home among his family on Saturday, July 15, 2023.

Born in Gloversville NY, he grew up in the Germantown section of Philadelphia and the suburb of Glenside. After serving in the Military, he and his new bride, Josephine (Jodie) Hamill Hutcheson, started their married lives abroad in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany, where they lived for three years before returning to the States. The couple then lived in Syracuse, N.Y., for three years before settling in West Chester, PA, for most of their lives. They spent their final years together in Ocean City, NJ.

Walt was a veteran of the Korean Conflict era and served in the Air Force for four years. Following his military service, he worked for General Electric and subsequently Signetics Corporation, a semiconductor manufacturer and Philips subsidiary. He was a consummate Philadelphia sports fan, save for baseball, where he had followed the St Louis Cardinals and Stan Musial since his youth. He also had a passion for automobiles, owning and meticulously maintaining an Austin Healy, a 1966 Porsche, and a 1998 Corvette. Walt was also a devoted beachgoer, making the pilgrimage every weather-accommodating day since he was a young boy. Active and svelte throughout life, his magic elixir in life was Coca-Cola; his nutritional sustenance: ice cream. His dry wit and steady presence will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Josephine Hamill Hutcheson; his sons and their spouses, Walter Hutcheson IV and his wife Elizabeth Chase, David Hutcheson and his wife Stacy Sutton Hutcheson; his sister, Helen Hutcheson Zartman; His grandchildren, Walter Hutcheson V, Elyse Hutcheson, Henry Hutcheson, Kathrine Hutcheson Matej and her husband David Matej.
