Shore Medical gifts $100,000 to Somers Point

SOMERS POINT — City Council accepted a $100,000 gift and thanked Shore Medical Center for the annual contribution in lieu of real estate taxes.

A resolution accepting the gift noted Shore has made annual donations to the city for general expenses and for specific projects, noting this gift would go into the general fund to be used for any purpose.

“Shore Medical Center is such an asset to town. As we get older, having a hospital in our backyard makes us feel that much more comfortable if, God forbid, something happens,” Mayor Dennis Tapp said, noting the medical center has 1,600 employees “which is incredible for a little 4-square-mile town.”

“I see some great things coming up on the horizon and I am so excited to be working with you guys,” Tapp added.

Councilman Howard Dill also commented.

“I would like to personally thank Shore Medical Center for this donation. It will definitely help the taxpayers and be put to good use,” he said, noting the donation is above and beyond the bed tax that is required by the state of New Jersey.

Councilman Sean McGuigan said Shore is a good neighbor.

“It’s hard to imagine a better corporate entity that has embraced the community,” he said.

“Shore Medical Center is committed to our community and our donation of $100,000 on top of the mandated bed tax is one of many ways in which we proudly support the local community,” said Robert Wood, chief financial officer of Shore Medical Center.
