Somers Point

Christmas Parade

SOMERS POINT – The Somers Point Historical Society is presenting the annual Christmas and Holiday Parade at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. The parade will begin at Dawes Avenue School and follow Shore Road to City Hall.
Scheduled this year will be appearances by Miss New Jersey America and Miss Teen New Jersey America, who was third runner-up to Miss Teen America. Special music will be from Mainland High School Band, which won first place in group 1A for the state, the Positive Movement Drumline from Philadelphia, and the Greater Kensington String Band. There will be many floats and decorated trucks, cars and boats. And of course, Santa Claus. Children will be invited to visit Santa at Somers Point City Hall at the conclusion of the parade.    

Holiday Sweet

Sale on Dec. 20

SOMERS POINT — The Atlantic County Historical Society has scheduled its Holiday Sweet Sale for noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 20, at the Atlantic County Historical Society Museum, 907 Shore Road in Somers Point.

Along with lots of homemade goodies, there will be hundreds of early Atlantic City souvenirs and post cards for sale. Proceeds benefit the museum.

There will be fiction, non-fiction, hardback and paperback books for adults, children and young adults as well as puzzles, audio books, CDs and DVDs.

Cape Shore Chorale

Christmas Concert

OCEAN CITY — Please join the Cape Shore Chorale when it presents the annual Christmas concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Bay Avenue at 30th Street, Ocean City.

“Christ-Mass” will feature sections of different musical Masses to comprise a unique and thrilling Mass that will stir the soul and senses. Led by music director Scott Breiner, the choir will also perform upbeat holiday favorites to get attendees in the spirit of the season.

The concert and light refreshments are free of charge. A free-will donation will be gratefully accepted.

SPFD Breakfast

SOMERS POINT – Somers Point Fire Department No. 2 is having an all you can eat breakfast with Santa from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Dec. 7, at the firehouse, 20 W. New Jersey Ave.

There will be free face painting at the breakfast which will feature pancakes, waffles, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, coffee and orange juice. Cost is $12 for adults and $5 for kids.

NAMI Connection is a free recovery support group for adults (18+) living with a mental health condition. Participants gain the support of peers who understand their experience and gain insight into others’ challenges and successes. The group encourages empathy, productive discussion and a sense of community.

Make Something 

for the Holidays

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Library’s Technology Learning Center will be providing instruction on how to use the Glowforge, Cricut and 3D printers to make the holidays special.

Sample adult take-home crafts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Children are welcome to attend with an adult, but the projects offered will not be suitable for those under 12 years old. Appointments are available to customize and create larger projects, as well as for younger age-appropriate projects.

The event is scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at Cape May Court House branch.

‘Sinatra Christmas’

Dec. 13 in Middle

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — Linda Gentile and the Jersey Shore Pops is set to wrap up its 2025 concert season at 3 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center with “A Sinatra Christmas,’ featuring the songs of Frank Sinatra.  

Joining the orchestra is noted jazz singer Tommy Delcorio, also known as “The Philadelphia Crooner.”

Delcorio specializes in the music of Sinatra, recording and performing classics such as “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Put Your Head on My Shoulder,” “I Believe in You” and “You Make Me Feel So Young.” 

With a relaxed vocal style and Sinatra-like sophistication, he enables audiences to revisit the rhythms of “Old Blue Eyes.”

OCEAN CITY – The Sustainable Book Group for Ocean City and Upper Township will meet via Zoom at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, discussing “Carbon: The Book of Life,” by Paul Hawken.

Yeti Party

VILLAS — The Cape May County Library Children’s Department has scheduled a Yeti Party for 10 a.m. Dec. 20 at the Lower Cape branch.

Cryptozoologists ages 3 and older are invited to celebrate the mysterious Abominable Snowman with activities, snacks and crafts. It’s the perfect event for children who love imagination, adventure and a little bit of snowy magic.

Registration is not required. The library requests that parents inform the Children’s Department in advance if their child has a food allergy; accommodations can be made so that everyone can participate.

Women’s Hall of Fame seeks nominations 

MAYS LANDING — Do you know an Atlantic County woman who has been a pioneer in her field and/or a real standout in the community? If so, consider nominating her for the 2026 Atlantic County Women’s Hall of Fame (ACWHF). 

Nomination forms are available at acwhf.org and are due by Jan. 15.

Selected honorees will have made significant contributions in their professional fields as well as outstanding contributions to the community. Nominees are selected in the following fields: arts/entertainment, athletics, business, community service, education, journalism, law, media, medicine/health/science, philanthropy, social services and volunteerism.

Candidates will be selected based on how their contribution has enhanced the lives of other women and how her work and commitment have cleared the path for other women to follow. 

The 2026 inductees will be honored during an induction dinner and ceremony in June.

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Library System hosts Al-Anon, Memory Café and Family Support Groups.

Al-Anon supports those whose lives have been affected by another person’s alcoholism. Memory Café is a place for those experiencing memory loss and their caregivers and family members. Family Support Group is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) that provides support for adults with a loved one living with a mental health condition.

Al-Anon is held at 11 a.m. each Thursday and Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Lower Cape branch in Villas.

Memory Café is held at the Cape May Court House branch one Monday per month. 

Family Support Group meets the fourth Thursday of each month at the Cape May Court House branch.

OCEAN CITY — The Grief Support Group, open to any adult who is grieving the death of a loved one, is invited to attend a safe and caring gathering at 6:30 p.m. every other Tuesday year-round at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, corner of Eighth Street and Central Avenue, Ocean City. 

There is no need to be a church member or from Ocean City to attend. “It is a time to share your story, to tell of your grief and talk of your loved one. It is a place where you may express your feelings, without judgment, nor fixing. Everything is confidential and you, as well, are privileged and entrusted with the heart-felt stories of others. No matter when your loss, it is healing to acknowledge its place in your life.”

Monthly Grief

Support Group

OCEAN CITY — St. John Lutheran Church, Journey Hospice, and The Shores — a United Methodist Communities (UMC) community — are partnering to offer a monthly Grief Support Group for adults who are navigating the difficult journey of loss.

The group provides a safe, welcoming and confidential space where individuals can come together to share their experiences, listen, and support one another. Whether someone has recently experienced a loss or is still processing grief from years past, all are welcome.

Meetings will be held in person on the second Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to noon at St. John Lutheran Church, 1001 Central Ave.

“Grief is a deeply personal experience, but it doesn’t have to be experienced alone,” group coordinators Beth Gebhart and Michele Musto said. “This group is about honoring each person’s journey and finding hope in shared understanding.”

The group is free and open to all adults, regardless of background or faith.

Call for free Family

Crisis Intervention

Families who are experiencing serious difficulties in managing the behavior of children 10 to 17 years old for whom they are responsible can seek assistance through the Atlantic County Juvenile/Family Crisis Intervention Unit (FCIU).

FCIU is a legally mandated program that is available 24 hours a day to intercede in family conflicts and help strengthen the family unit. Its services include short-term crisis stabilization, family assessment, case management, treatment planning and referrals to appropriate community-based services.

FCIU is available to meet in-person by appointment with youth and their families from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 101 Shore Road in Northfield. Appointments can also be conducted by phone or as a virtual meeting to help de-escalate and resolve family conflicts.

Free screening

for depression 

Online screening for depression and postpartum depression is available at mhaac.info/screening.

The confidential screening involves 10 questions related to topics such as sleep habits, appetite, concentration and level of energy. Resources and recommendations are offered at the end of the survey. 

Anyone who wants to take the screening but needs assistance can call The Mental Health Association in Atlantic County at (609) 652-3800. Staff are available throughout the year by phone or by appointment. No cost, no insurance needed.
