Club meets Oct. 23

NORTHFIELD – The Offshore Garden Club will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Northfield library ( Otto Bruyns), 241 W. Mill Road.

The club is hosting Rutgers Master Gardener Ann Cinquina for a wreath-making workshop at 11 a.m. All are welcome.

Heart 2 Heart

Quilt Show

TUCKAHOE – The South Shore Stitchers are having their Heart 2 Heart Quilt Show 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18 and 19, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Upper Township Community Center, 1790 Rt. 50, Tuckahoe.

There are going to be daily demonstrations, a “Heart Strings” raffle quilt, country store, raffle baskets, a boutique table and expanded vendor mall. Admission is $12 for adults and free for children under 12.

Medicare enrollment

topic at AARP Oct. 18

OCEAN CITY – At 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, Ocean City AARP Chapter 1062 will host a speaker on Medicare open enrollment at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Ave.

Medicare open enrollment is Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.

The speaker is John Billetdoux, founder of JBA Insurance Brokers of Marlton. He will speak to the various plans, the differences between Medicare supplements and Medicare Advantage, what it takes to change a plan, as well as explain the donut hole, and the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). 

The meeting will be helpful to those presently on Medicare, or about to turn that age when eligible, or if caring for a parent or relative who is on Medicare.

Holy Trinity accepting

orders for pot pies

OCEAN CITY – Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Ocean City is now accepting orders for Griggstown Farm Pot Pies.  

Chicken, vegetarian and shepherd’s pie (beef) are available at $24 and apple, blueberry, cherry and pumpkin pies at $19.  Pies come frozen and serve four to six.  Orders due by Thursday, Oct. 31.  Pickup will be Nov. 8, 9, 10.

SOMERS POINT — The Somers Point American Legion Auxiliary has scheduled its annual sub sale for 11 a.m. Oct. 19.

Italian subs will be available for $8 at the post at First Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. No special orders will be accepted.

Chorale ‘Night

On Broadway’

SOMERS POINT – Cape Shore Chorale presents “A Night on Broadway” 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Grace Lutheran Church, 11 East Dawes Ave., Somers Point.

The event features music and gastronomical tastings to support the Cape Shore Chorale in providing free concerts twice yearly.

A $50 donation per person includes hors d’oeuvres, desserts, all beverages, and an evening filled with musical entertainment. The event is open to all who would like to support this community choir.  Reservations are required.

Craft show

in Tuckahoe

TUCKAHOE — The “Handmade in America” Professional Craft Show is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Upper Township Community Center, 1790 Route 50 in Tuckahoe.

Every vendor is from New Jersey and every item in the show is made by skilled craftsmen. Admission is free; donations are always welcome.

Vendors include Madd Potters from Cape May, Merry May’s Quilts & Other Fun Stuff from Tuckahoe, S&S Kitchens, Anthony Niglio’s Dream Trader jewelry, South Dennis Heritage Arts and Bob Peterson’s Decoy Carvings.

Other activities include a Lucky Number Auction, quilt raffle, food and live music by Linda & Ollie from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the South Jersey chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

SOMERS POINT – The Somers Point Arts Commission is seeking talented people for a “Talent Showcase by the Bay” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at Gateway Playhouse, 738 Bay Avenue, Somers Point.

Individuals, duos, or groups of three to 10 are welcome to apply. Participants must be 15 years or older and all kinds of talent are encouraged – singers, musicians, dancers, family friendly comics, magicians, etc.

Christmas Parade

seeks participants

SOMERS POINT – The Somers Point Historical Society will be Hosting the annual Christmas & Holiday Parade at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. This is the first time it’s being held on a Saturday. 

The parade will begin at Dawes Avenue School and follow Shore Road to City Hall.  They are currently seeking parade participants – marching groups, float entries, decorated trucks, flatbeds, Landscape trailers, boats or any other vehicle. From elaborate to simple, think Christmas lights, trees, blow-ups or any type of holiday decoration.  Prizes will be awarded.

Singers needed for

Handel’s ‘Messiah’

GALLOWAY – The Stockton University Performing Arts Program is recruiting singers for the 16th production of Handel`s “Messiah,” in December.

All members of the community interested are welcome, no audition is required. Rehearsals begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the Campus Center Theatre at Stockton and continue Sundays and Mondays until the performance at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City. Solo auditions for the performance will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 13.

Stockton Professor of Music Beverly Vaughn will again lead the Stockton Oratorio Society community choir, which is open to all interested singers, regardless of the level of experience. The group includes Stockton students, members of area choirs and community members.

Luncheon Oct. 30

LINWOOD — The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) has scheduled its annual Women Fighting Hunger Luncheon for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 30 at Linwood Country Club.

Event organizers aim to raise more than $375,000 statewide to support CFBNJ’s work providing healthy food for residents.

It will include a program, lunch, volunteer hour and networking. 

New York Times food writer Melissa Clark will be the event’s featured speaker, simulcast to Linwood from the event in Florham Park. She has written more than 40 cookbooks, including “Dinner in One: Exceptional & Easy One-Pan Meals and Dinner: Changing the Game.” Robin Stoloff will be the program moderator.

Walking Club

OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City Walking Club, formed last summer, invites everybody to join weekly walks on the Ocean City Boardwalk on Friday mornings.

People of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to meet outside the Ocean City Music Pier at 8 a.m. each Friday to walk the length of the Boardwalk. The Ocean City Healthy Living Advisory Council created the group as a way for people to get healthy and meet new friends. 

The Boardwalk is 2.45 miles long, and round trip is (4.9 miles). Walks may take about 90 minutes, but participants are welcome to stop at any point along the route. The HLAC asks everybody to grab a coffee or water and “don’t forget to bring your smile.”

NAMI Connection is a free recovery support group for adults (18+) living with a mental health condition. Call for free Family

Crisis Intervention

Families who are experiencing serious difficulties in managing the behavior of children 10 to 17 years old for whom they are responsible can seek assistance through the Atlantic County Juvenile/Family Crisis Intervention Unit (FCIU).

FCIU is a legally mandated program that is available 24 hours a day to intercede in family conflicts and help strengthen the family unit. Its services include short-term crisis stabilization, family assessment, case management, treatment planning and referrals to appropriate community-based services.

FCIU is available to meet in-person by appointment with youth and their families from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 101 Shore Road in Northfield. Appointments can also be conducted by phone or as a virtual meeting to help de-escalate and resolve family conflicts.

Free screening

for depression 

Online screening for depression and postpartum depression is available at mhaac.info/screening.

The confidential screening involves 10 questions related to topics such as sleep habits, appetite, concentration and level of energy. Resources and recommendations are offered at the end of the survey. 

Anyone who wants to take the screening but needs assistance can call The Mental Health Association in Atlantic County at (609) 652-3800. Staff are available throughout the year by phone or by appointment. No cost, no insurance needed.
